I saw a post on Tumblr that said, “The idealized future version of myself cannot exist without my current self being the catalyst for change and doing hard things,” and it stuck with me.

Phillis Wheatley is the first African woman to be ever published. Flora Nwapa being the first woman to publish a novel is also wrong. As early as the 20 century we have isiXhosa fiction (Lilita Kakaza published two novels: Intyatyambo Yomzi, 1913 & UTandiwe wakwa Gcaleka, 1914).
