Katsina Govt Confirms Death of Retired Major General Rabe in Bandits’ Captivity
By: Zagazola Makama
The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the captivity of bandits.
The government, in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu, described the development as tragic and a major loss to the state and the nation.
According to the statement, the retired senior military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.
The government said that despite sustained efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his release, the situation ended in tragedy.
“The deceased retired general died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension,” the statement said.
It noted that the late officer’s abduction and subsequent death represented not only a loss to his immediate family and Katsina State but also a monumental loss to the country.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased, describing the incident as a dark moment and a reminder of the need for intensified efforts against criminal elements threatening peace and security.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice.
He also assured residents that the government remained resolute in its determination to eliminate banditry and safeguard lives and property across the state.
The government prayed for the repose of the soul of the late retired Major General and urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies in the fight against insecurity.

With this Animal Plateau state will never see peace.
I wish the government will just provide a field so that Berom and Fulani should Just fight and whoever win shikenan.
The Dangerous Double Standards Of Plateau Leaders Fueling Plateau’s Endless Bloodshed
By: Zagazola Makama
The latest “vote of no confidence” issued by the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) against the Sector 4 Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Col. Victor Asuquo, is not surprising. What is surprising is how some individuals continue to openly fuel violence, threaten law and order, intimidate security agencies and still attempt to posture as defenders of peace.
Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri and his associates cannot continue to play both arsonist and firefighter at the same time.
Mr. Mwantiri’s latest “vote of no confidence” against Sector 4 Commander, Col. Victor Asuquo, and other officers did not emerge in a vacuum. It followed weeks of escalating reprisals, counter-attacks, cattle rustling, killings and communal mobilisation across Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa and Mangu LGAs.
For weeks now, the same voices accusing security agencies of failure have also been the loudest promoters of dangerous rhetoric that has continue to ignite mass violence across Plateau State.
Mr. Mwantiri himself publicly declared that his group would “No longer Guarantee Peace and Security in the Plateau” If Fulani cattle were seen grazing in certain communities. He further warned security agencies not to arrest anybody “under the guise” of attacks against Fulani. That was not a peace statement. That was a threat and a declaration of war.
And sadly, events that followed appeared to mirror exactly the atmosphere he helped create.
Since those statements, there have been repeated reports of targeted killings, cattle rustling, attacks on herders and assaults on Fulani settlements across Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Bassa.
Earlier today at about 2:31pm along Uturu Road near Abia State University (ABSU), I experienced one of the most traumatizing moments of my life.
I boarded a mini bus to get an item back to my lodge when some policemen without name tags stopped our vehicle at a checkpoint.
They ordered me to step down, which I peacefully did. Immediately, they collected another passenger’s phone and began interrogating him aggressively about what he does for a living.
Moments later, one of them turned to me and asked why I was using 3 phones. I calmly explained to them that I am a student and that the phones were bought with my hard-earned money. Instead of listening, they dragged me, my brother, and another passenger into a nearby bush and started harassing us for absolutely no reason.
Before we knew what was happening, more officers joined them and they began beating us mercilessly like criminals, even though we were just students who came to ABSU to study and build our future.
My brother and I sustained serious injuries during the assault. My ear is currently blocked, I can barely hear properly, and it has been bleeding because of the torture we faced in the hands of these officers...my phone screen also got broken.
The most painful part was the constant threats they made. They said they could shoot us and nothing would happen. They also said they could make sure we never graduate from school. Imagine hearing such terrifying words from the same people meant to protect citizens.
My only “crime” was owning 3 phones.
ABSU students are no longer feeling safe. Police harassment, intimidation, and extortion around Uturu are becoming unbearable. Students are living in fear every day. We came here for education, not to be brutalized and treated like criminals for no reason💔. @PoliceNG@TunjiDisu1@PoliceNG_CRU@dammiedammie35@ChuksEricE@HarrisonBbi18@MaureenChinaka@alexottiofr@winexviv@aleeygiwa@YomiShogunle
Few days after the IGP says all Policemen must have a name tag, a Nigerian police officer without a name tag seen h@rass!ng a young man because he uses 3 phones and saying he doesn’t care if the young man informs the IG of police 💔💔
I will never support the LAWFARE being waged against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. @elrufai
Let the courts uphold the rule of law by granting him bail and ensuring he receives a fair trial. Bail is a constitutional right not a tool for punishment or intimidation.
Using bail as a means of caging Nigerians is unjust, unlawful, and unacceptable. It is a practice we must all reject, regardless of who is involved.
