Much-loved porter Pete is retiring after years of distinguished service at Asda Newark – and handing over the trolley straps to his 17-year-old grandson Matthew who recently started at the store.
While Pete, who's 68, looks forward to a well-earned rest Matthew will be picking up the mantle and taking on his role as porter. Pete said: "I've been training Matthew up and showing him the ropes and he's taken to it like a duck to water."
Matthew said: "I got the opportunity to learn from his years of knowledge and experience and it's been great having that extra time to spend with my grandad. He's a legend."
Today we joined volunteers to go litter picking along the tidal Haven at Havenside Country Park & Local Nature Reserve to protect the Lincolnshire wildlife that you can see there, ranging from oyster catchers & barn owls to bats & common seals- helping to reduce plastic pollution
Thanks to an emergency grant from the Asda Foundation, last night we were able to support the residents of Tolney lane with a large donation of bread, toiletries, baby items, long-life foods and shopping bags.
We hope everyone stays safe.
The @AsdaFoundation is committed to supporting groups at the heart of local communities around our stores when they experience an emergency.

Huge thanks to our Asda Community Champion colleagues for their kind toy donation to the Bramley Children's Unit at Newark Hospital. These will be very popular with little visitors whilst they wait in the clinic. ❤️🚗 @SFHFT@AsdaNewark@coperhian@jothornley22
