“If your adviser isn’t looking after you in the way you need, then you need to look after them.”
This is awful advice.
If you have a dysfunctional relationship with your PhD supervisor, it is not your responsibility to manage them.
Students deserve better.
@ThePhDPlace
Some colleagues and I are working on a research project about bad PhD supervision experiences and the stories we have heard so far are truly horrendous.
Life (and your time as a PhD student) is too short to endure bad supervision.
Please put your well-being first and seek support. If you can, find a different supervisor. You deserve better. ❤️
@ConnectFnd Hey, I’m early in my FND journey (with multiple complex comorbidities) and still learning. I don’t know anyone else with FND experience so would love go talk to someone who understands (and is also in a UK treatment context) if you’d be up for chatting?
Two years ago, my mentee was diagnosed with cancer very young. It was sudden and unexpected. She was determined as heck though and filled with grit. Once things settled a little I offered her a project to work on to keep her distracted with NO timeline. 🧵 1/10
Are you travelling by @SouthernRailUK this weekend? My friend Lucie desperately needs your help. She has spent nine months hand making this beautiful quilt out of disused kimono silk for her oldest friend's brand new baby:
Right here in England, women are being taken into policy custody straight from the hospital, facing years-long investigations, their properties searched, blood samples taken without consent, and people shouting "baby-killer." All for having an abortion.
It's time to act.
🌈📢Call for research participants! 📢🌈
Excited to share that I'm recruiting participants for my PhD research - I'm looking for #LGBTQ people who would like to share about their experience being #sectioned under the Mental Health Act
DM or email me for more details!
A little Sunday afternoon story.
Two weeks ago I had quite major surgery. Today I got on a bus for the first time since then. With my blue badge. It was very full and I found myself standing initially near the priority seats holding on firmly to the hand rails.
Daniel Sloss is not just a fantastic comedian, but he stands by his words. He was the only comedian to speak up without anonymity. Legend 👏 #C4dispatches
@CostelloWilliam No not necessarily, I think it’s hard to draw a line re age and vulnerability. I would certainly consider it in appropriate if she were a teenager, but think some in their early 20s can be quite vulnerable in these ways as well.
