ASHTINE OLVIGA FILM PREMIERES IN GERMANY

Filipino actress Ashtine Olviga is set to make her mark on the global stage as her short film “memorare” premieres at the Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival in Potsdam on April 23.

Selected for the festival’s Main Program, “memorare” follows Maia, a devoted follower of the Virgin Mary whose faith takes a disturbing turn. As eerie and unexplained events unfold, she appears to be haunted by the very figure she worships. Told through unsettling archival footage captured by an unknown source, the film blurs the line between devotion and psychological descent.

Olviga anchors the experimental narrative with a gripping performance, joined by Mina Cruz and Jewel Milag.

The film is written and directed by Pia Velonza, with Hector Barretto Calma as producer. The creative team also includes Akie Yano (Director of Photography), Elvin Jay Macanlalay (Production Designer), and Alyssa Villanueva (Assistant Director).

Velonza is part of a new wave of Filipino filmmakers pushing boundaries with bold, unconventional storytelling, with previous participation in the Busan International Film Festival’s Platform Busan and the Heroes Hub Youth Fellowship.

With its world premiere in Germany, “memorare” signals another strong showing for emerging Filipino talent on the international festival circuit—led by Olviga’s standout turn at its core.
