The massive operation by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Shirdi has sent shockwaves through the local trading community. Initiated under the direct supervision of FDA Commissioner @Tukaram_IndIA, this multi-agency raid targeted major manufacturing units and sweet vendors operating near the iconic Sai Baba temple.
​The action was triggered by a flood of serious complaints from devotees who noticed severe quality issues with the sweets they were purchasing.
​To execute the raid effectively, a special joint task force was mobilised, combining forces from the FDA, the District Milk Adulteration Control Committee, cops, the Shirdi Municipal Council, and the District Dairy Development Office.
​During the operation, authorities seized approximately 650 kilograms of hazardous sweets and raw materials. To protect the health of millions of visiting pilgrims, the entire confiscated stock was crushed using a JCB machine.
​Legal sections under the Food Safety and Standards Act have already been slapped against the offenders, and official sweet samples have been dispatched to government laboratories for detailed chemical analysis.
​This operation is part of Mundhe’s state-wide "Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra campaign", which has been aggressively targeting food adulteration, sub-standard dairy operations, and hygiene violators across the state. Authorities are now urging all devotees to only purchase sweets from licensed, authorised vendors and to immediately report any discrepancies in colour or taste.
