@SciInTheMaking I had Rowan of Rin read to me in Y4. I use the first chapter now to teach scientific writing to Y8. There is a difference in depth of analysis and choice of links I ask the students to make. Also, in what their directed activities related to the text are. Not so bad.
I've never worked for a school that has a good onboarding program that leaves new to the school teachers feeling confident they know how everything there works.
I suspect that one of the biggest reasons for this is because most schools are, frankly, systems-poor.
There is no way to onboard someone into an organization that is not organized.
How can principals support classroom discipline?
Rule #1: Never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever send a misbehaving kid back to class without a consequence

Parents are a big part of the problem with cell phones in school. Far too many feel entitled to contact and hear back from their kids during class.
Phones distract kids for all sorts of reasons and one of those reasons is their parents texting them constantly.
Own it, guys.
🚩 I keep seeing teachers around my age—with less than 10 years of experience—leaving the classroom or the profession entirely. That should be alarming to everyone.
Hi all,
We’ve made an absolute killing selling Leavers’ Hoodies to the Year 11s and the Prom profits have been amazing. We have made enough money to buy new Delonghi bean to cup coffee machines for the SLT Offices and a packet of six glue sticks for every tutor group.
Thanks x
What’s the funniest thing you’ve gotten scolded for in a 1:1 at work? “Please stop saying ‘That’s why they pay me the medium bucks’ every time someone says “Thank you” it’s making people uncomfortable” comes to mind for me
Man I would love to be in the space under the stage as a short teacher. No one is going to come ask things of me, they couldn't run a phone line down there AND I can't possibly attend all school assemblies because my exit is would be blocked.
Hi all,
In an attempt to cut down on internal truancy we have decided to use all the obvious hiding places. The girls’ toilets are now the Art room, the PE cupboard is now the counsellor’s room and the space under the stage is now a staffroom for really short teachers.
Thanks x
Me: oh why are there two posters for the Libs on this corner?
Mum: where's the one of the Labor guy I noticed yesterday?
Different electorate, same story.
I put up two coreflutes in a good spot the other day.
They're gone now, and four Liberal ones are in their place.
I saw a lot of Liberal coreflutes today.
And I left them there.
Respect.
Even when it's not due.

Once again, matching teaching to learning styles has near-zero impact on student achievement. I've noticed a resurgence of the learning styles myth recently so this new study is timely. 🧵 ⬇️
Imagine if we had stuck with the French subs. No matter how many billions we give to Trump the US will let us down and the UK is most likely leaving AUKUS.
