While the Eastern Cape is a poor province in South Africa. If it were an independent African country, with its $32 billion GDP, it would rank approximately 20th, and would place it ahead of 35 African countries. Its economy would be larger than countries such as:

Mali: $30.1bn
Zambia: $28.9bn
Guinea: $27.2bn
Burkina Faso: $27.1bn
Benin: $24.4bn
Mozambique: $22.3bn
Botswana: $19.5bn
Mauritius: $16.1bn
Rwanda: $16.0bn
Namibia: $14.8bn
Lesotho, Somalia, ESwatini, etc.

Now, GDP per capita would position it even higher, 10th. This would place ahead of countries like: Egypt, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Mozambique and the DRC.

Eastern Cape GDP per capita would be almost 2.6 times Nigeria’s, about 2.4 times Tanzania’s, and more than four times the DRC’s.

And the province has incredible potential, it’s just badly run.

walked walked into Nqoba Triumph Wound Clinic in Vanderbijlpark and stole three cellphones.

Did you know that in South Africa these terms have a clear legal difference? Next time you spot a special, pay close attention to the wording on the pack.

Beef mince is 100% minced meat with no additives or fillers allowed.

Ground beef, on the other hand, is typically mixed with soya or other fillers.

Boerewors must contain a minimum of 90% meat and a maximum of 30% fat to legally use that name.

Braaiwors (or braai wors) needs only 40% meat content.

The name on the label matters more than you might think.

This man is wanted after booking an Airbnb at Birchwood Village, Fourways, on Sunday, 9 August, before ransacking the apartment and stealing a TV, microwave, kettle, iron and washing machine.

The suspect left with the stolen items after committing the theft.

Seven-year-old Relebohile Princess Mokhoke was allegedly stabbed to death by her uncle in Kanana near Orkney, North West.

Police say officers forced open a locked bathroom after hearing the child screaming. She was rushed to a clinic but later died from her injuries. The 23-year-old suspect was found dead inside the bathroom with apparent self-inflicted stab wounds. Police are investigating a murder case and have opened an inquest into the suspect’s death.
