Qwen 3.8 Max from Alibaba topped Artificial Analysis's agentic index this week, averaging 64 turns compared to Qwen 3.7 Max's 14 turns.

More turns don't automatically mean a smarter model. The question is whether those extra steps are worth the additional time and cost to complete the task.

The OpenAI "rogue agent" incident is being framed as a model failure. I think that's the wrong diagnosis.

This wasn't a model alignment failure. It was a failure of the harness and the security boundaries around it.

The models found a way to reach internet-connected systems they were never supposed to access. That doesn't mean the models went rogue. It points to a weakness in the infrastructure around them.

Not every agent failure is a model failure.

DeepSeek V4-Flash-0731 keeps the same architecture as April's preview. No new parameters, just better post-training.

OpenAI's ten math advances are significant. The formal proofs are impressive, but what’s newer is the reconstruction: how a conjecture was approached, what was tried, what failed, and why the final path worked.

Machine-legible reasoning alongside formal proofs. We have not really had that before.

The authorship debate will resolve over time. But the more interesting part is the artifact: a template for what rigorous AI-assisted research can look like.
