I thought I had the right of way 🚦. I lost my sight at 14, but I still did many wild things while being blind 🤯. I jumped on cars 🚗, chased people while blind 🏃🏾♀️, rode on vans blind 🚌, and yes—I even drove while blind 🚘. I did a lot of crazy things after losing my sight because deep down I was angry 😡. Angry with the world, angry with God, and I felt like I had the right to act out.
After losing my sight at 14, I went to a blind school in Mississippi 🎓. But even then, I never really embraced the blind life. I would walk in the middle of the street 🚶🏾♀️ knowing I was in the way, but in my young mind I felt like I had the way. I felt like I was punished and wronged, and this was my way of fighting back 💥. Looking back, I know it was stubborn and reckless, but I was just a child who thought God was punishing me, and this was how I acted out.
I have even driven while I was blind. My boyfriend at the time, who is my children’s father now, was sitting in the passenger side directing me while I drove. I was 18 at the moment and fearless, so this is something I would not do today because now I’d be too afraid. We were driving out of his yard, and his cousin was sitting in the backseat. When they realized he was serious about letting me drive, they got the fuck out just like that. I drove around the neighborhood and came back around on a street called River Road, which is the outside street of our neighborhood where traffic is very fast. While riding through the neighborhood, he announced that the police were around, which made me want to stop. Why would he say that? I couldn’t see them, and if he hadn’t said anything I wouldn’t have gotten nervous. But I’m just letting you know—I did drive blind.
I had no respect for the law or authority 🚔✋🏾. I acted out with anger and rage, ready to prove to others they were not going to punk me just because I was blind. Even today, I feel like I’d risk my life to show someone they cannot put fear in me. My blindness will not limit me, and no man will ever put fear in me 💪🏾🔥. Some may say that’s stupid, but it’s how I feel—I will never give anyone that kind of power.
Despite never learning how to use a cane 👩🏾🦯, I was still very mobile and moved around freely. But deep down, I don’t think I ever really embraced the blind life because I didn’t even realize how many blind people were in the world. Isn’t that crazy? Even though I went to a blind school, it wasn’t until my 30s when I came across a group of blind people on a Partyline 📞 that I realized there are so many of us. Being blind myself, I could walk right past another blind person, but if nobody said it, I would never know.
All of this has led me to share my journey in my series Ashley Morgan: My Blind Life 📚—and also to write another book called Blind But Built Different 💜🔥. In my books, you will see my truth—my pain, my fight, my stubbornness, and my strength.

Chapter Eleven: When Love Isn’t Returned — Still Choosing Your Language
“If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?” —Matthew 5:46
Loving someone who doesn’t love you back—or who doesn’t know how—is one of the hardest things to face. You give. You show up. You learn their language. And still… silence. Rejection. Indifference.
But love doesn’t always come full circle the way we expect.
And still—you must choose: Do I stop loving, or do I love differently?
When Your Effort Isn’t Matched Unreturned love doesn’t mean your love is wasted.
It means you’re loving someone who may: •Be emotionally unavailable
•Be speaking from a wounded place
•Be incapable of love right now
•Be taking your love for granted It’s painful. But it doesn’t make you weak. It makes you real. Boundaries Are Love, Too Loving someone doesn’t mean letting them walk over you. •You can still speak their language with respect for yourself.
•You can say “I love you” and “this is hurting me.”
•You can serve from a full heart—not an empty tank. Setting boundaries isn’t unloving—it’s how you protect the part of you that loves deeply. God’s Love Gets Ignored Too Every day, people reject God’s love. They ignore His Word, dismiss His presence, and turn from His grace. And still—He loves.
“He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” —Matthew 5:45
That doesn’t mean God doesn’t correct. But it does mean His love is not based on approval—it’s based on His nature. How to Keep Loving Without Losing Yourself •Know the difference between loving and chasing.
•Understand the line between patience and pain.
•Choose when to stay, when to step back, and when to let go.
•Keep your heart open but guarded by wisdom. You don’t stop speaking your love language—but you choose where to speak it. Exercise: Letter to the Unseen You Write a letter to the version of you who kept loving even when it wasn’t returned.
Start with: “I see you. I know how hard that was. But I’m proud of you for choosing love anyway…” Sometimes the person who needs to hear that most—is you.
✨📚 Writing is my new playground. For years, I held back because the people around me weren’t interested in the knowledge and passion I carry inside. But I’ve learned I don’t have to shrink myself for anyone—my words will find the ones who are meant to receive them. 🌿💜

Did you know that I never purchased cold medicine for my children—and even as a kid, I never took it myself? Growing up, I learned something important: once you catch a cold, there’s no medicine that can make it go away faster. Cold medications don’t cure colds, they only mask the symptoms while your body naturally fights off the virus. The truth is, God already gave us healing within our cells. 🌱✨People often feel like medication is always necessary, but that’s not true. Yes, medicine has its place, but not everything has to be treated with pills or quick fixes. Sometimes all your body really needs is rest, water, and allowing the self-healing power God placed within you to work. 🙌💧I speak of being a super healer because God gave us power. He gave us free will—the ability to manifest our own life. Your choices create your reality, good or bad. If your life feels messed up, somewhere along the way, you made a choice that brought it about. If you have bad people around you, that’s also a choice—you don’t have to let them stay in your circle. Today, I choose to surround myself with positive, uplifting people who speak life. 🌞💪I won’t allow negativity, doubt, or depression from others to drag me down. Yes, people need help, but I know my own limits—I’ve struggled with depression myself and I refuse to give anyone the power to pull me back into that dark place. If you hear me talk about food and fasting a lot, it’s because I’m living it right now. Sometimes I feel like 💩 and have zero appetite—so I let my body rest and heal, and it truly helps me feel better. I’ve learned to trust my body: when something’s off, I just don’t want to eat, and that’s natural. It doesn’t mean I’m sick; it means my body is telling me it’s time to heal and take a break. 🌿💧😴
Animals show us this wisdom every day. When pets are under the weather, many of them naturally stop eating—dogs and cats often lose their appetite while they recover. 🐶🐱 Wild predators don’t eat daily either; lions and wolves feast, then fast, and their bodies use the downtime to reset between hunts. 🦁🐺 Bears sleep through winter living off stored energy. 🐻 Snakes and lizards may go off food while they shed or when temperatures shift. 🐍🦎 Migrating birds fly incredible distances with long stretches between meals. 🐦 Nature isn’t on a three-meals-a-day schedule—it follows the rhythm of need, rest, and renewal.
We’ve been taught to always eat—breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus snacks—but ask yourself: do you move enough to burn all that off? If not, a constant feed can become extra weight, and weight can weigh you down emotionally and physically. ⚖️🧠💪 Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is pause eating, hydrate, rest, and let your system focus on repair. When true hunger returns, nourish yourself with intention instead of routine. 🍽️✨
I’m improvising as I learn—listening to my body, choosing rest over force-feeding, and honoring the same natural wisdom animals follow. It’s not about punishment or extremes; it’s about giving the body space to heal, then fueling it well when it asks. 💜
