When there are a lot of managers in the middle levels, in order to justify their work, they come with bizarre metrics to track productivity of ones working under them.
People are made to pump up those metrics which leads to less work & more show-off.
The actual client deliverables get sidelined.
Reading is one such activity where you aren't struck with sensory overload. You just have your book & the imagination of your mind. It almost feels like a therapy for the mind.
On the other hand, movies have sound & visuals which has a very different effect to your mind than reading.
Books aren't much different than movies , if you are watching a movie everyday or reading a book everyday... It's no different.
Book lovers just pretend that they are doing something better. Beyond a point it's equally useless, specially fiction books.
Academic books might help.
Its astonishing to see that something which was built as short-form content, now takes up more of our time than long-form content & also damages our brain.
This feels more like the judgement to decide - "When to give up?"
I feel like, we inherently know, what's wrong & what's right for us but we still get into patterns where choose short term pleasure over long term & indulge in things that are wrong for us.
Once, we make up the mind to do the hard thing - choosing to do the right thing, after a certain time, we can hit a roadblock where the gains aren't significant, we can switch to something else.
However, to make that call, we need a deeper understanding of what we care about. To me, spending sometime alone with myself/nature seems to help here.
@kalpitveerwal That's so true! We get caught up so much in the worry about the future that we forget to enjoy the moment we have dreamed of in the past.
For complimentary lounge access, there is a rule that the name on the card should match the name on the boarding pass.
However, there's one trick to it - You can pre-book lounge access and get the QR, scan it & get in without showing your card.
When you are pre-booking, there's a field which asks for guest's name, you can put the traveller's name in it & the QR invoice will also have the same name as the boarding pass.
On a recent trip, I was able to generate the QR using Lounge One website.
It is one of those things where deep within you know that it has helped you become the person you are today but you don't wish anyone to go through the pain you have been through to reach here.
Controversial take… but worked for me 👍
Sometimes the biggest setbacks in life are actually the best ones.
Lost someone?
Lost all your money?
Lost a job?
Lost something you thought you could never live without?
You lose the things you were holding on to. Your ego goes away.
Your priorities change.
You understand what matters, you understand the people around you better.
And slowly, you realise that you still have one thing left, a chance to start again.
You can build yourself back, one step at a time. Your worst days can teach you more about yourself than your best days ever could.
Hitting rock bottom is not always the end.
Sometimes, it is where you begin again.

Tried using @Uber Reserve for the first time & it works so well.
Booked the ride one day before, driver was assigned the same day.
On the day of the journey, the driver was at my building 10mins prior to the journey.
Best part - the fare wasn't very different than a normal Uber ride.
Clearly the smoothest & hassle-free Uber booking that I ever did :)
If you are travelling by an airplane & don't want to pay the premium for a window seat but want one.
Here's what you can do:
1. Don't do a web check-in.
2. Reach the airport early (3ish hours before departure for domestic).
3. Politely ask for a window seat during check-in.
Caveat - there's no guarantee that you will get one but if its available the ground staff will graciously allot it.
I always have a hard time doing any mutual fund research since there are so many chains of thought you can get into starting with a single fund.
I think the most important skill for that type of research is - ability to think clearly (which I clearly lack haha)
I will turn 28 this year & yesterday I boarded my first flight.
It was a domestic NMI to BLR Air India Express flight.
After experiencing the take off and landing, the kid in me felt so joyous, I was smiling all along, thinking about the incredible engineering that went into making it feel so seamless.
I have always been the type of person who has stayed away from different experiences thinking I will do it later, let me first focus on work. But this experience showed me very vividly about the kind of beautiful things I'm missing from my life.
I'm not sure if I will be able to change my mindset anytime soon but trying doesn't hurt :)
I feel like thr pace at which AI is developing is making me run away from building anything. I start learning something, in few days it gets outdated, I lose motivation. Hence, I do a lot of jumping between different topics and end up learning nothing concrete.
I also need to fix this & you aren't alone :)
@DelayMeter_IN Do we have to pay extra than what's being shown in the uber/ola app?
I will be going to the airport tomorrow, distance is 20kms, Uber is showing me 424 rs.
"Does the work equal to 15 mature trees."
Why not just plant 15 trees?
Benefits:
- No R&D
- Minimal maintenance
- No depreciation
- Cheap
- Gives shade
It might feel like I'm being sarcastic but no I'm genuinely curious here.
Delhi is experminating with a lot of anti pollution solutions.
Delhi's first Pure air tower.
Developed by IIT Madras.
Cleans air ,releases oxygen back.
Does the work equal to 15 mature trees.
