With the start of the 26-27 season, the Premier League's self-imposed ban on front-of-shirt gambling sponsorships has officially taken effect. Originally agreed upon by clubs in April 2023, the landmark rule completely eliminates betting operators from the central chest position of matchday kits across all 20 top-flight clubs for the first time in over two decades, marking a major aesthetic change after a campaign where more than half the league carried bookmakers on their shirts.

However, while matchday shirt fronts are now free of betting brands, the regulation is deliberately specific in scope. The prohibition strictly applies to the primary front-of-shirt location on matchday jerseys. It does not restrict other commercial inventory, leaving sleeve sponsorships, training apparel, pitchside LED boards, and official digital partner packages entirely open to gambling brands.

Rather than ending lucrative relationships with the betting industry, numerous Premier League clubs have adapted by shifting sponsors to these unrestricted areas. Everton transitioned Stake onto their shirt sleeves, while Aston Villa moved Betano to their sleeve slot. Tottenham Hotspur brought Betano on board as their official training wear partner, and Bournemouth incorporated gambling sponsorship on their match kit sleeves.

Ya no es sólo que la afición hable, es que otros clubes ya han roto sus contratos por problemas en logística, calidad del tejido y demás. Es un dramón de marca y no sólo por los colorines.

@Hadi_Anani @JBaldiu Ojalá tengas razón. El Athletic de las presiones estaba bien, pero creo que hace falta el pragmatismo de Edin. Que valore si hay que estirar el campo o acumular otro jugador por dentro.

Pero el tema es que las posiciones de detrás influyen en el planteamiento de delante; no al revés. Robert con Yuri por dentro y Areso cerrando en derecha?

Me encanta La Pizarra, pero nos les verás pajiplantillear con Mikel Merino al Athletic. Porque 1) el Arsenal no quiere que salga y 2) el jugador no quiere salir.

Aquí el Athletic va a dejar que se vaya un central titular? Aquí Laporte (volvió por amor al Athletic) quiere irse?

Vender lo bonita que es LaLiga para luego mantener ese guión en el que sólo hay dos protagonistas y el resto somos mero espectador.

Esa idea de que el resto de equipos "no molesten"; que faciliten la salida para que el cuento tenga final feliz. Primero Julián, ahora Laporte...

Laporte sería un gran fichaje para el Barça. Lo comenté en el primer Pajirritas de este verano y ha terminado haciendo un Mundial sobresaliente con España. Experiencia, liderazgo, perfil zurdo, hace muy buena pareja con Cubarsí… es un sí por muchas razones y más por ese precio.

Bringing on 3 defenders at 1-0 up. What message does that send? I wrote it in my Daily Mail column after the Mexico game. Until we understand that courage and bravery is controlling possession under pressure and not booting / heading it up the field 40 yards then this will always be the end result.
