Smartphone financing will be a game changer to put a smartphone in every hand, an ambition that @jazzpk has been working towards and advocating for a long time. Kudos to @umarsaif @MoitOfficial @PTAofficialpk and all involved for taking positive first steps for an enabling policy.

Our focus has always been to expand the benefits of mobile broadband, especially among low-income segments in Pakistan. The launch of Pakistan’s first installment-based handset financing program ‘Jazz Digit 4G’ was recognized as a successful global launch by @GSMA last year. We also collaborated with @KistPay earlier this year to provide smartphones to our customers with easy installment plans.

We are quite confident that the industry-wide installment-based 'smartphone for all' program, with an effective regulatory cover, will help accelerate digital and financial inclusion in Pakistan.

An urgent pivot is needed in Pakistan’s approach towards local handset manufacturing. Out of 67.7 million handsets assembled/manufactured locally since 2020, only 22.9 million were smartphones. While countries are retiring 2G/3G networks to free up bandwidth for more efficient 4G, ensuring our populace is tech-ready is paramount.

This calls for a decisive move by the government: cutting the cord on both the import and local assembly of 2G/3G phones and prioritizing the production of quality 4G-enabled smartphones. This step not only accelerates our digital journey but also positions Pakistan for significant export opportunities.

Our overarching goal should be to place a smartphone in every hand through affordable installment plans, rather than focusing on feature phones. With widespread 4G access, digital adoption will surge, unlocking immense socio-economic opportunities for the people of Pakistan.

On its part @Jazzpk is fast sunsetting 3G and optimizing resources for a more efficient 4G network, enhancing customers' mobile broadband experience

Disappointing to see no relief extended to Pakistan's 195 million telecom users in the budget, who continue being subjected to highest telecom taxes in the world. We can't attempt any of our digital ambitions when Pakistanis bear 34.5% tax on the privilege of using the Internet.

@raza_matin GOP is busy in putting more taxes without any differentiation between people who have been on internet already and can afford to pay vs people who are not and can’t afford either ..PTA has this data and I believe usf might do something along the line
