As and avid Etsy customer, I strongly support small businesses and don't want to see them disappear at the hands of a corporation. @Etsy: Cancel the fee increase. Work with sellers, not against them.

i thought the day
would never come
the greedy darkness
was settling in my heart
with just enough sins
for the feast
to last for eternity
suddenly
an echo of your voice
calling me a warrior
& i brace up my courage
& fight again
& again the sky
looks like hope

The worst thing about being an historian is that I can't just casually watch medieval-esque films anymore; dissection of the accuracy WILL take place.

Finally getting back to reading #history!
This is the first history book I've picked up since handing in my dissertation. I've decided to go with some light reading of 400 pages. 🤓

When I was really poor, I got so fed up having only T shirts and old sweat pants to wear, that I tried to make a suit out of curtains. Now I can afford to wear anything I want. So I wear T shirts and old sweat pants. Probably some moral to this story. Anyway, here's a cat.
Okay, in some ways this is a pernickety complaint, but I do genuinely think easy conflations between 'England' and 'Britain' are deeply pernicious, not only because they erase Scottish experiences, but also because they promote a mistaken understanding of how the UK works.
I've gone from being stuck in a 19th century rut for YEARS to reading something published this century, last month even! I'm proud of myself.

Since moving back to the US from the UK, I've noticed a very sad difference between the cultures:
Americans suck at banter.
Let us take a moment to acknowledge the gravity of their loss. 😔
After working in a bookstore for 6 months, I have come to the realization that there's really only two flavors of historical fiction that people care about: WWII and Outlander.
My medieval heart hurts.

It's funny how (some) non-tattooed people get together and talk about how virtuous they are for not having tattoos while simultaneously putting down people who do.
Like, can we not be the Sneetches? Why does it matter one way or the other?

So, in Jack and the Beanstalk, does the bean-seller know they're actually magic or is he a scammer?
If the former, why would he give them away?
If the latter, why did they end up being magic? Is it because Jack believes in them?

Been a fan of his work since I was 16 and skateboarded from my high school to the theatre to see Prince Caspian on the day it came out.
Happy Birthday @benbarnes. Hope this next decade is a good one.
