Annual check and service to the Pyke organ clock taking place on 4 March 2019. This is an important part of its ongoing conservation, so that Pyke is always ready for @TempleNewsam's most favourite people on the planet..... our visitors! I feel a Bryan Adams song coming on.....
Vivienne Foley’s ‘Sinuous Vase’ (1998) is on show in our Terrace Room. It sits on a Marsh & Tatham bookcase made for George IV for Carlton House and its backdrop is a tapestry that he gave to Lady Hertford as a token of love. @LeedsMuseums#porcelain#rethinkceramics
@mikegrundy Never stop learning, and always keep in mind the wider goal of sustainable access, intergenerational equity, and the service and added value that conservation of heritage assets delivers for custodians of said assets.
Buildings, like our bodies, change over time, this morning I was needed to trim an early Georgian door in the Picture Gallery @TempleNewsam. Perhaps a little building settlement, or movement of timber casing, door was chafing, not closing properly, a problem for the door contact.
@mikegrundy This would not get the same reversibility consideration as a painting. It is a bit of a red herring, reversibility. There was a conference on the theme of "Reversibility: does it exist?".
@mikegrundy The door was repainted to its 1746 appearance in 1996, with an oil base paint mixed by Charles Hesp of Hesp and Jones. It is just the edge so I will find or get mixed a low sheen colour to match. It will be oil based, like for like.
Temporary removal of a carved armorial shield mounted high near Great Hall @TempleNewsam out of harm's way while some wiring work is done.....close inspection, some lifting paint to attend to, with Lascaux acrylic polymer.
Productive curatorial committee meeting @BurtonConstable, interesting discussion around the conservation and future of the Burton Constable whale (mentioned in Moby Dick).
The Bionic Chair, a short grain nightmare with some bad breaks, needed for Fantastical Beasts exhibition @TempleNewsam is coming together, with the help of some epoxy reinforced glass fibre rods, and carvable epoxy paste for infilling small losses. Oh, yes, and fish glue.
