@DMVThrillers That's the idea. I grew up in this city among ordinary people, and every choice they make costs something. Are you reading much crime fiction set outside the usual cities?

[Aslam Goolam Hoosen @Aslamhoosen]

South African crime fiction hits different because the stakes are real and the place is a character.

Deon Meyer. S.A. Cosby's energy. That lineage.

I'm writing into it Durban-set, working-class heroes, no easy villains. Book 1 is out.

For 12 years I was the nurse at sea. The one who goes first through the door, and signs at the foot of the page when it goes wrong.

Next year I'm publishing the cruise-ship medical drama only someone who lived it could write.

Majestic Voyager. 2027.

In most heist stories the safecracker has a drill.

In mine, he has a reconciliation.

@Peyton_455 Thank you Peyton!🙏 its been 6 years. I started with a self help book , got positive publisher feedback and then went on to fiction. I got a brutal review and learned from it. Editing + research background keep it realistic. Would love to hear about your writing too!

Genuine question for the writers and readers here:

Have you ever changed a habit because of a STORY, not advice?

I wrote a whole novel on the theory that you did. Curious if I'm right.
