He has fallen even further into the darkness...You see a moment at the end of S2 where Celebrimbor calls him the shadow of Morgoth and he says the rings will be your downfall...it kind of hits him like a ton of bricks. And this whole inner life that he probably wasn't aware of comes over him. And I think in these five years as his evil has been spreading across the map, he has been locked in a room having this psychological battle, trying to keep those demons away. And we see very early on in the first few scenes how affected he is. And how much he has progressed from the end of the second season."
