Week 1 Class 2 of the Softr phase at Next Gen Automation Academy was all about going deeper into the platform.

After the initial introduction, this session focused on understanding the Softr interface in detail.

Led by @maryamadetokunb , students were guided through how to navigate the environment and start thinking in terms of building real applications.

We covered:

• How the Softr interface is structured
• How to organize pages and blocks effectively
• How to connect data to create functional user experiences
• An introduction to the Code Builder for adding custom logic
This is an important shift in the training.
Up until now, the focus has been on building automation systems.
Now, students are learning how to turn those systems into usable applications that people can actually interact with.

Week 8 Class 1 at Next Gen Automation Academy.

We built a RAG Agent live.

Here’s what we did:

• Uploaded a company’s FAQ into Google Drive
• Extracted and chunked the data
• Converted it into embeddings
• Stored it inside Pinecone (vector database)
• Connected it to a Telegram bot
• Retrieved precise answers instead of hallucinating

So when users asks a question…
The AI doesn’t “make something up.”
It searches the company’s actual knowledge base from the pdf and responds with context-aware answers.

Week 8 Class 2 at Next Gen Automation Academy was all about going deeper into RAG agents using Pinecone.

In the previous class, we built a working retrieval system.

This week, we focused on refining and optimizing it.

We discussed:

• How embeddings transform text into searchable vectors
• Why poor chunking destroys retrieval accuracy
• How Pinecone ranks and retrieves relevant context
• How to structure prompts around retrieved data
• How to significantly reduce hallucination
Most AI builders stop at “it works.”
But real-world implementation requires more than that.
If your chunking is wrong, your retrieval is weak.
If your retrieval is weak, your AI confidence drops.
If your AI confidence drops, businesses won’t trust it.
Students are now understanding that building RAG systems is not about adding a vector database.

It’s about designing the entire retrieval architecture intentionally.

This is the level of depth we’re operating at in Week 8.

Understanding API responses & data types.
We used Apify inside n8n to pull structured data, loop properly, and populate Google Sheets cleanly.
Most automation errors don’t come from logic.
They come from not understanding the data structure.
That’s what I love teaching.

We didn’t just connect nodes.
We interacted with a real API inside n8n live training. 🚀
During our NextGen Academy Data Types session, we built this workflow from scratch:

✅ Schedule Trigger
✅ Call an API using Apify (Run Actor → Get Dataset)
✅ Retrieve structured JSON data
✅ Loop through each item properly
✅ Map correct data types (string, number, boolean)
✅ Append clean rows into Google Sheets

This is where most people get stuck:
Not understanding how APIs return data
Confusing arrays vs objects
Mishandling numbers as strings
Appending broken rows into Sheets
We used Apify inside n8n to:
• Trigger an actor
• Wait for dataset completion
• Fetch the structured output
• Transform it correctly before writing to Sheets

Automation isn’t about “drag and drop”.
It’s about understanding:
→ How APIs respond
→ How data is structured
→ How to process it correctly
