#pwr1ha#RBAupdate Got my outline and some research papers up and I’m writing my literature review! This paper says there’s not a disciplinary or age gap between scientists using or not using social media, but rather it depends on profession...will my case studies support this?
I wanted to use the hashtag #RBAupdate for my #pwr1ha tweeting because my classmate started using it, but it’s already a hashtag for an Australian bank lol...whoops looks like I’m using it anyways
...but maybe that’s because I don’t already know the questions that scientists in this field are asking. I wonder which type of tweet a scientist in the field would be more engaged with
#pwr1ha Out here analyzing how @CellPressNews uses Twitter to advertise for new papers it publishes. Some of its tweets pose questions that it’s papers have answered and some just state the results. I personally find the questions to be more engaging tweets, as a lay person...
My heart lit up when I saw that there are 5 people from Stanford working on the advisory and editorial boards for this publisher....are we thinking...interviews??? 👀
In my research for #pwr1ha, I found this science journal publisher @SciMts that publishes observations, hypotheses, and data from studies AS THEY HAPPEN 😱 this platform makes the scientific research process more transparent and accessible.
I wonder why this publisher is trying this new method of publishing scientific findings. What audiences are they trying to reach? Does this mean there could be a change in the how quickly science is communicated to both scientific audiences and general audiences?
@sierraburgon This is scary because if this is a political decision, this action is moving towards companies refusing to serve people because of their political orientations, which has all sorts of issues associated with it #pwr1ha
@RiaCalcagno@tessalaprofessa Despite the good intentions, this is still an increase in the power of Facebook. It also makes the platform much more of a ‘publisher’
@OceanSeaIceNPI I have read it! It is interesting that you view communicating climate science to the general public to be part of the responsibility of being climate scientists. Do you think all scientific disciplines share this responsibility of communicating directly to the public? #pwr1ha
#scientistswhoselfie shows that scientists who use social media help foster trust in the scientific community among the larger public! - that's a good reason for the science community to care about public engagement #pwr1ha
@tessalaprofessa It's also a little scary that after Hughes says that Facebook has control over free speech that it should not have, he calls for a government agency that would regulate free speech...what makes one option better than the other? #pwr1ha
@tessalaprofessa I think it's interesting that Hughes calls for government regulation in order to preserve a capitalist economy. I think most people in this country don't realize that government regulation and free market can go together
