Locking in my cost-of-living through a mortgage was an excellent decision, and has enabled me to invest way more money than I could have otherwise.
Prior to owning my current home, I rented it. My mortgage (including insurance and property taxes) is 35% less than the rent was.
I think Dev is chronically addicted to self-justification, and that is why he lingers like a frozen Cro-Magnon, long after all others have evolved to higher forms.
"AI-consciousness" is anthropomorphized nonsense, on the same degree as "the tree-spirit is happy, and we know because it seeks the sunlight"
In this same vein, given that each LLM is simply a word-prediction algorithm stapled to a few random-number-generators:
If I wrote a prompt, and then worked through an LLM's algorithm meticulously on paper and pen, and generated the algorithm's response, would the papers be conscious? Or the pen?
Or am I just playing with myself, and marveling at my own consciousness echoing back at me, like a baseball bat I swung too-hard and which now bounces back, seemingly-willful, to cave in my skull?
@ShamashAran You always ask for a directed verdict.
In many states, it's required if you want to preserve your ability to later appeal sufficiency of the evidence.
JW said that this email says that police "exchanged" emails (meaning, sent AND received) with Crooks.
The email does not say this.
Therefore, JW lied.
If your point is that the email might be SILENT on whether she sent emails back -- ok, fine, my point is just that JW lied about what's in this email. Which they did.
This is why Americans are very stereotypically not patriotic at all while Europeans and Nords with social democracy, welfare states, and unions are the most patriotic people on Earth
Totally possible theory. Please take these two points as constructive:
(1) "what was [the guy who had been planning to kill the President] doing [in the nation's capital]" doesn't land super well without more, and
(2) As somebody who's been around DC a little bit in my day job as a lawyer: the FBI employs over 10,000 people in (and around) DC every single day. Every restaurant in DC, Alexandria, and Bethesda is an FBI hangout spot.
I mean, could be. Should definitely dig deeper on this.
But, relevant here, that's just not shown in this email, meaning JW was lying.
We gotta stick to the truth. This kind of lying makes us look bad.
Honesty in reporting is supposed to be one of the reasons we are so much better than the Left.
@AwakenedOutlaw They didn't. JW lied about what's in this email.
It says the police officer had received "two emails FROM" the shooter, and had never replied to him.
She didn't "exchange" emails. She received two emails and did not reply to either of them.
I’m sorry the Bears left your sorry, broke-ass excuse of a state, but Northern Indiana isn’t the place where almost every single county had voted to secede.
@aaron_renn Now do this analysis, but with everything fleeing Illinois.
If it can't even hold onto a brand NAMED AFTER CHICAGO, what will possibly remain?
Counterpoint: totally understandable for people to claim fraud when a state takes a god damn month to count ballots, and races inevitably shift blue the longer counting goes.
Other large states like Texas and Florida do not do this. European countries do not do this.
Part of running legitimate elections is avoiding even the appearance of impropriety, and California has failed to do that.
@NathanielGivens This is false! Throughput is governed by cross-section at narrowest point. Zipper merge gets everyone to the bottleneck faster, but can't get them through it faster. Merging early, however, allows for faster speeds at the bottleneck point.
