Good to welcome Thailand’s Deputy PM and Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, to Brussels after my visit to 🇹🇭 in May.
We are making solid progress on the EU–Thailand trade agreement, and we stand ready to deepen our partnership in respect for mutual sensitivities.
Warm welcome to Thailand's Deputy PM Suphajee Suthumpun to take stock of our 🇪🇺🇹🇭 FTA negotiations. Making the dedicated round trip = commitment, fully shared. Our teams are working hard, with a clear sense of direction.
🇹🇭🇰🇭🇮🇩🇲🇾🇵🇭🇸🇬🇹🇱🇻🇳🇱🇦🇧🇳 A lunch today with the Ambassadors of the ASEAN member states, hosted by the Embassy of Thailand here in Brussels.
It was an open conversation about how Belgium and Southeast Asia can work more closely together. ASEAN is the world's fifth-largest economy, home to 700 million people, and a region growing at close to 5% a year. For Belgium, it matters both as a partner in diversifying our trade and as a partner in defending an international order based on rules.
We discussed the concrete steps that bring us closer. Belgium is in the process of acceding to ASEAN's Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. The draft law is now before our Parliament. The European Union is deepening its trade ties across the region, with agreements concluded or under negotiation with several ASEAN countries. And in 2027, the EU and ASEAN will mark fifty years of partnership, an anniversary we want to give real meaning.
These ties also need personal contact. I'll travel to Manila and Kuala Lumpur in the coming days, and to Thailand and Cambodia later this year, to take this cooperation further.
My thanks to Ambassador Kanchana for hosting us, and for her work over the past years to bring Belgium and the ASEAN countries closer together.

The following is the speech delivered by H.E. Mrs. Luisa Ragher, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand on the occasion of the celebration of Europe Day 2026 at the Europe Day reception on 21 May 2026 in Bangkok as released by the EU mission today. Excerpt.
Today we gather to celebrate Europe, and the European Union’s long-lasting friendship with Thailand.
During the month of May, across the world, we celebrate the project of peace born from the devastation of World War II. In the aftermath, Europe’s founders made a visionary choice. They chose cooperation over conflict, democracy over authoritarianism, and solidarity over isolation

Good news for Thai passport holders! @EU_Commission adopted the Visa Cascade scheme for Thailand, which will facilitate the issuance of multiple-entry short-stay Schengen visas with progressively longer validity periods (up to 5 years) for Thai passport holders who have previously obtained and lawfully used Schengen visas and maintained a good travel record. This reflects the close partnership between Thailand and the EU, which will help promote travel, trade, investment, education and people-to-people ties. (8 May 2026)
