Bluntly put, the airline lied to you. Per Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, when you are flown in a class below what you paid for, the airline is to immediately refund the difference via whatever means the ticket was purchased, and also pay a 30% compensation through whatever means is agreed to by the passenger.

If the airline has told you anything else, it is unacceptable and it is a brazen attempt to evade Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

Earlier today my team and I returned to the Ajiran and Agungi axis in Eti-Osa to inspect the ongoing removal of contraventions and drainage restoration works, and I can report that our decisive intervention is already yielding visible results. Within 48 to 72 hours of reopening the Ajiran channel to the Lagoon and the Ikota River, we have seen a remarkable improvement in stormwater discharge, bringing real relief to residents of Agungi, Ajiran Village, and neighbouring communities. We are not done yet. This exercise continues until the entire drainage alignment is fully restored and reconnected to the natural water bodies.

I also met with community leaders and residents to explain both the immediate and long term measures we are deploying. We are collaborating with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to deliver a sustainable engineering solution for this flood prone corridor, and I have directed the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang to commence remedial maintenance on channels requiring urgent intervention.

At Orange Island on Freedom Way, I reaffirmed that the government remains resolute against illegal dredging and land reclamation. Reclamation activities there were halted last year because the developers failed to obtain the mandatory Environmental Impact Assessment and drainage clearance. That area is a major discharge outlet for Lekki Phase I into the Lagoon and any obstruction would create significant environmental challenges. We also inspected downstream discharge points serving Itedo, Kushenla and Freedom Way and identified additional corrective measures for immediate implementation.

I commend the Local Government authorities for improving their operational capacity. Flood management is a shared duty. Every new road must have properly designed collector drains connected to primary canals, and communities must take ownership of completed infrastructure. On enforcement, we continue to arrest and prosecute environmental offenders. We will soon deploy between 140 and 150 additional waste compactors to strengthen LAWMA's fleet and support PSP operators. Before the end of this year, our Material Recovery Facilities and Transfer Loading Stations will begin diverting over 4,000 tonnes of waste daily from landfills as we accelerate the transition from a linear waste system to a circular economy. This is the work of building a flood resilient #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.

LASG DECLARES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR WASTE DUMPING ON LAGOS ROADS, SET TO ESTABLISH WASTE POLIC

The Lagos State Government has declared zero tolerance for waste dumping on all roads across the State and is set to establish a "Waste Police" to support environmental sanitation efforts.

The decision followed the directive of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for the emergency evacuation of waste on Lagos roads.

Consequently, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), have resolved to ensure that roads, motor parks and garages remain clean at all times.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Ministry of Transportation on Saturday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said transport unions must ensure that their parks and garages are always kept clean and discourage indiscriminate trading and improper waste disposal within their areas of operation.

He stated that the Ministry would commence enforcement activities to ensure that all motor parks and garages are properly maintained and that waste is disposed of appropriately.

Reiterating that roads are not refuse dumps, the Commissioner further disclosed that the State Government would constitute a Waste Police made up of members of the transport unions across all local government areas. According to him, the Waste Police will monitor motor parks and their surroundings to ensure that refuse is not indiscriminately dumped.

The Lagos State Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube noted that all over the world, road transport operators partner with governments in monitoring transport infrastructure. He urged all parties present at the meeting to rise to the clarion call of ensuring the challenge of waste disposal is surmounted.

Hon. Sola Giwa, who was also present at the meeting, urged NURTW and RTEAN to take full responsibility as partners in waste control and management by ensuring total compliance at their various parks and garages.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, appreciated the transport unions for supporting the reintroduced environmental sanitation exercise and urged them to continue backing the initiative.

He noted that waste management cannot be handled by LAWMA alone, which is why the Agency is partnering with the transport unions whose members are spread across the State and can help promote proper waste disposal practices at motor parks and their surroundings.

Dr. Gbadegesin disclosed that LAWMA evacuates about 13,000 tons of waste daily across Lagos, while the transport unions move an estimated 22 million commuters every day. He stressed the need for collaboration between LAWMA and the unions to ensure proper waste disposal at motor parks and garages, while also discouraging indiscriminate trading in their parks and corridors.

He reiterated that LAWMA would continue to work closely with the unions, leveraging their presence across the State to monitor roads, motor parks and surrounding communities, urging them to report cases of indiscriminate waste disposal for prompt action.

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a Special Task Force to combat indiscriminate waste dumping across the metropolis, particularly on roads, bus stops, garages, and lay-bys. As part of the initiative, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) will work with government agencies as “waste police” to monitor and report environmental violations.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. @seunosiyemi_ , emphasized that tackling environmental abuse requires collaboration between government and transport unions, warning that offenders will face sanctions. He also directed union leaders to ensure cleanliness in their garages and parks, discourage indiscriminate trading, and remove illegal structures that contribute to waste generation.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube, highlighted the critical role of transport workers in maintaining public order and security, urging them to report suspicious activities and support efforts to keep Lagos clean and safe.

LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. @muyiwag , noted that Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste daily and called on transport unions to help prevent waste disposal on roads, promote proper waste management, and stop street trading around bus stops and newly constructed roads.

Stakeholder @Sola_Giwa assured the unions of government support in enforcing sanitation standards, removing illegal shanties, and maintaining clean transport facilities. In response, the transport unions pledged their commitment to partnering with the government in waste policing and environmental sanitation across Lagos.
