If the Indian government itself disowns the passport as proof of citizenship, it could create serious international complications, says Justice Madan B Lokur, former #SupremeCourt Judge.
Illustrating the consequence of the MEA's interpretation, Justice Lokur says that a foreign officer might refused to accept an Indian Passport as citizenship proof saying that it was a mere travel document.
"The foreign immigration officer will say, 'You are presenting to me a travel document. I want a passport which says that you are a citizen of India. Your government says that this passport you are showing me is not proof that you are a citizen of India, so I am not giving you a visa,'" Justice Lokur said.

@LiveLawIndia What a circus has the judiciary become. Clowns running the media, government and offices. Rational thinking has no space. Mocked as intellectually deficient scammers by whole world, when will our country correct ourselves and become civilized?
The Indian small businessman is the easiest to hate.
Everyone piles on them. Historically, the Pakistani identity was based on hating the Hindu Baniya. Always portrayed as crooked, exploitative & evil by Bollywood.
Successive govts have always treated them as tax-chor. The entire Indian bureaucracy was invented to keep a check on them. To make doing business difficult.
The newly minted MBAs who get trained on western manuals & case studies, hate them too. Very few grads want to work for a Lala company.
And the current crop, hisses at them for not spending on R&D. And forcing their daughters to kill their a-month-old husbands.
It’s been injected in our collective psyche to hate the small business owners. And then we wonder why are so many people unemployed.
India: “Why is fertility rate falling?”
Also India:
Unaffordable housing.
Insane school fees.
Expensive healthcare.
Companies don't hire young moms.
Zero govt support systems.
Tech companies have moved
From "use AI as much as possible, we need to use AI to automate everything and reduce our employees"
To "The AI bill is coming very high, it's becoming more and more expensive day by day, please use AI responsibly"
And in between laid off thousands of employees to fund AI and finding now that AI is more costly than human.
Back in 2020, I spent a whole year trying to convince Bengaluru authorities to allow landowners to capture excess rainfall and recharge groundwater levels. We couldn’t secure permits because we didn’t bribe them.
Today our city continues to flood.
Situation at Silk Board metro station at 6:00 pm today - just after one rain! #BangaloreRains
It’s the same spot that was heavily water logged in May 2025. Looks like nothing has been done to avoid such situation again. vc: Twitter follower.
3 men beat toll workers at 1:30am near Nelamangala, Bengaluru. Said they are "MLA-side people" so they don't have to pay ₹50 toll.
One worker came to help his colleague. They dragged him inside a BMW, beat him more, then threw him out on the road.
This is what political cover looks like on the ground. People using politician names as a licence to assault working class men doing their jobs at night.
The BMW and a Fortuner both fled.
In Surat right now, something really good is happening. Videos are out.
Corporator elections are going on, and when candidates come begging for votes, people are demanding answers.
They are asking what work they have actually done and want clear answers. Otherwise, they are not even allowing them to enter their societies. This is happening with everyone, whether they are from the BJP, Congress, or AAP.
I really like that people are asking questions. Politicians should always fear the public.
Bengaluru's green cover has fallen from 78% to 6%, its natural cooling systems are gone, and the city is baking.
