No i don’t think he’s innocent or an angel or misunderstood. he’s a terrible person. However im also able to read so it’s actually very easy to tell how he ended up like this. People acting like he wasn’t severely failed by his father is ridiculous.
Everyone in the world who acted like Dabi being a villain wasn’t endeavor’s fault and said “actually his parents tried to help him!! they wanted him to have a good childhood he just didn’t listen!!” owes neglect survivors $50
i've seen a big problem where a villain/antagonistic character is revealed to have a sad/sympathetic backstory and the fandom immediately assumes the backstory presentation is trying to *justify* the villain's actions and ends up getting angry over it
When I discuss MHA, one of my pet peeves is when people say;
"Well my favorite character X is stronger than character Y, so he's just better"
And its almost always accompanied by a gif of them looking cool using a power as a substitute for actually explaining their reasoning.
