In 1929 a doctor at the Mayo Foundation published his treatment for heart failure, kidney disease, high blood pressure and tuberculosis. It was raw milk, and nothing else.
His name was J. E. Crewe and he had been doing it for 15 years.
The patient went to bed. A small glass of raw milk every half hour, all day, building to five quarts or more. No other food. No drugs. Weeks of it.
He reported swollen hearts shrinking, dropsy draining away, blood pressure falling, and tubercular patients putting on weight for the first time in years.
He was not a crank on the fringe. The milk cure had been standard practice in the sanatoriums of Germany, Russia and Switzerland for a century, and Hippocrates had prescribed milk for consumption 2,300 years before that.
Crewe was specific on one point. It had to be raw. Heated milk did not work.
He also explained why the treatment never caught on with his colleagues. It was so simple that it did not interest them. There was nothing in it to prescribe.
Within a generation the milk was being cooked by law. The cure stopped working, and medicine concluded that the cure had been quackery all along.

Up to 76% of children with autism may actually have an autoimmune disorder which blocks uptake of folate into the brain, leading to a cerebral deficiency
Autistic children were 19 times more likely to test positive for folate receptor alpha antibodies, which bind with and block folate receptors at the blood-brain-barrier
These children had normal blood results, but very low levels in cerebrospinal fluid
Treatment with a specialized folate supplement, calcium folinate/folinic acid (aka Leucovorin), led to improvement in ~65% of autistic children studied
Standard testing is useless because blood levels of folate show up as normal, but the brain is deficient
Ordinary folate supplements (folic acid, methylfolate) are ineffective because their transport system is blocked
Calcium folinate, on the other hand, works by penetrating the brain via alternative transporters (reduced folate carriers) to effectively restore folate levels
However it must be taken in extremely high doses to achieve this effect. Leading physicians are using approx. 2mg/kg body weight.

Loneliness rewires the brain to see threats everywhere. A 2018 study in the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology found that lonely people show heightened stress reactivity and increased sensitivity to social threat, even in situations that are not threatening, because the brain has shifted into a permanent defensive mode.
The study measured cortisol responses to social stress tests and found that participants who scored higher on loneliness showed larger and longer-lasting cortisol spikes when placed in mildly stressful social situations. Their bodies were reacting to a casual interaction the way a non-lonely person's body reacts to a genuine threat.
The neuroscience behind this was described by John Cacioppo, the leading researcher on loneliness until his death in 2018. He found that loneliness activates the brain's threat surveillance system, making lonely people hypervigilant to signs of rejection, hostility, and exclusion. The problem is that the hypervigilance creates a self-fulfilling prophecy: a person scanning for rejection is more likely to interpret neutral cues as negative, which pushes people away, which deepens the loneliness.
The brain is not broken. It is doing what evolution designed it to do: when you are isolated and unprotected, the safest strategy is to assume everything is a threat. The response made sense on the savannah, where isolation meant vulnerability to predators. In a modern living room, it means watching a friend's face for signs of disapproval that are not there.
Loneliness is not sadness. It is a state of threat, and the body is running a programme that was designed for survival and is now trapping the person inside it. https://t.co/0DFXFdcICb
