Elon Musk on why he slept on the floor of the Tesla factory for 3 years.
In Poland, they don't get this.

“I lived in the Fremont factory and the one in Nevada for three years straight. That was my primary residence. I'm not joking. Seriously. I slept on the couch, and at one point in a tent on the roof, but for a while I just slept under my desk, which was out in the open in the factory.” As Elon explains, he did it for an important reason: “I slept on the floor under the desk so that during shift changes the whole team could see me. That's important, because if the team thinks their leader is off somewhere having fun, sipping Mai Tais on a tropical island [that's demoralizing]... Because the team could see me sleeping on the floor during shift changes, they knew I was there. That made a huge difference, and they gave it their all.” This principle that leaders must be visible is something Elon emphasized in a note to Tesla employees ending remote work and requiring a minimum of 40 hours a week in person: “The higher up you are, the more visible your presence must be. That's why I spent so much time living in the factory—so those on the production line could see me working right alongside them. If I hadn't done that, Tesla would have gone bankrupt long ago.”

The same ones who inspired @elonmusk to start @SpaceX have let him down. That must’ve been severely disappointing, it saddened him, yes, but it didn’t affect his determination.

And here he is today. He’s established one of greatest and most achieving space companies - that’s @SpaceX - that NASA is even relying on to achieve the next Artemis missions, the Moon and Mars plans.

Elon just created 4,400 millionaires in a single day.

400 of them are now worth over $100 million.

These aren't VCs. They're SpaceX employees, and the list includes welders, technicians, and cafeteria staff, because for two decades the company paid every level of the workforce in stock instead of higher salaries.

Juan Hernandez immigrated from Mexico and took a $28 an hour contractor welding job in 2015. He says he didn't even know what SpaceX was. The company gave him a $10,000 equity grant and let him buy more shares through payroll deductions. That stake is now worth $880,000.

Trevor Hise's parents wanted him to take a stable job at General Electric. He picked SpaceX instead, stayed 12 years, and accumulated over 100,000 shares. At the $135 listing price that's $13.5 million. He's 37 and semiretired. His words: "The magnitude of this has been ridiculous."

The most telling detail came before the listing. Over 100 employees quietly banded together and negotiated a group wealth management deal covering up to $5 billion, because none of them had ever needed a wealth manager before.

Software IPOs have minted millionaires for 30 years. This is the first one where the money went to the factory floor.
