Nothing beats the excitement of seeing our bearded dragons enjoy their daily feast! We currently have a beautiful selection of healthy, active beardies waiting for their forever homes, alongside all the high-quality feeders and specialized supplies you need to keep your reptile friends thriving.
If you are thinking about bringing a new companion home, remember that bearded dragons are omnivores whose dietary needs change as they grow. Here at the Asylum, we recommend a routine of fresh greens in the morning to encourage healthy eating habits, followed by a protein-rich insect meal later in the day. It is common to accidentally overfeed young dragons, so offering a salad in the morning and protein a few hours later is the perfect balance to support their rapid growth during their first year. That tapers down when they reach adult size (average 18 to 24 inches) around 18 months of age.
We are passionate about reptile care and are here to help you get started on the right foot. Stop by the shop today to meet our beardies and let our knowledgeable staff assist you with everything you need for a long, happy life together!

What’s more adorable than tiny baby Mourning Geckos? Watching them enjoy their first meal!
We keep our hatchlings in smaller temporary setups to closely monitor their food intake and ensure they are thriving before transitioning them into their permanent appropriate full-sized enclosures.
It is important to note that, contrary to what some big-box stores may suggest, Mourning Geckos are not "desk pets" to be kept in tiny containers. They are obligate social animals and should never be housed alone; we recommend a group of at least 3–4 for the best results. They can survive alone, but will thrive when kept in groups. Because they are arboreal, vertical space is essential for climbing and establishing territory. For a group of 1–3, we recommend an 18-inch tall vertical terrarium as the absolute minimum.
Stop by the Asylum to see these little ones, learn more about their care, and check out all the unique "inmates" currently residing with us!

Our next Inmate Spotlight from the Asylum features the *Narceus gordanus*, commonly known as the Smokey Oak or Smokey Ghost millipede. These adorable, stout, slow-moving millipedes are native to the southeastern United States and make fascinating, long-lived pets. Here are some facts about them—stop in to learn more!
• **Size:** Adults grow between 2.4 to 4.7 inches in length and up to a half inch wide.
• **Lifespan:** With proper care, they can live for up to 10 years.
• **Habitat:** They require an enclosure with 4–6 inches of substrate consisting of organic topsoil, sphagnum moss, white-rotted hardwood, and a thick layer of decaying hardwood leaf litter. (Please avoid resinous woods like pine).
• **Diet:** These are detritivores; they feed on decaying organic matter, leaf litter, and rotting wood, supplemented with fresh vegetables (like carrots and squash) and a calcium source like cuttlebone to support healthy exoskeleton development.
Stop by the shop today to meet these unique, charismatic creatures and see what else we have in stock! We’re happy to help you get started with the perfect habitat setup.

Meet our first-ever captive-bred baby Keel-Bellied Lizard! She is 1st generation captive bred, feeding well on small crickets and roaches, and is already becoming quite comfortable with human interaction. We are excited to be anticipating more 2nd generation arrivals later this year from our 2025 group of kids.
Green Keel-Bellied Lizards (Gastropholis prasina) are stunning, bright green, arboreal reptiles native to coastal East Africa. They are rewarding, high-energy display pets for those looking for a smaller alternative to a tree monitor. With consistent handling from a young age, they can become wonderfully hand tame. Their diet is primarily insectivorous—thriving on gut-loaded crickets, Dubia roaches, mealworms, and waxworms—though they will occasionally enjoy crested gecko diets or other soft treats.
Interested in meeting this little one or seeing the rest of our incredible animals? Come visit the Asylum today!
TGIF! Today at Asylum Pets, we are excited to be highlighting one of the most fascinating creatures in our shop: the Vinegaroon, also known as the Whip Scorpion! If you are looking for a truly unique addition to your collection, these docile and surprisingly low-maintenance arachnids are an incredible choice. They are completely non-venomous and generally very safe to handle, making them a fantastic conversation starter. While they possess a natural defense mechanism—spraying a strong, vinegar-scented mist of acetic acid—they are incredibly chill and will only use this tactic if they feel severely threatened. With the right care and environment, these hardy companions have impressive lifespans, with males living around 8 years and females often thriving for up to 20 years!
We invite you to stop by the Asylum this weekend to meet these unique arachnids in person and chat with our knowledgeable team. While you are here, be sure to browse our entire selection of amazing animals and stock up on all the premium supplies, feeders, and habitat decor you need to keep your pets living their very best lives!

Regals are back in stock at the Asylum! We are so excited to announce that these charismatic jumping spiders (Phidippus regius) have officially returned to our shop, and they are already proving to be a huge hit.
These incredible arachnids are increasingly popular pets known for their remarkably curious personalities—they are highly intelligent and have even been known to recognize human faces, making them truly engaging companions! As one of the largest jumping spider species in existence, they typically range from 10 to 20 mm in size, with some impressive individuals reaching over 25 mm.
Curious about their unique behavior? Unlike many other spiders, Regals are active hunters that do not spin traditional webs to capture their food. Instead, they stalk and pounce on their prey with precision, only using their silk to create cozy, intricate hammocks for resting, molting, or laying eggs. While you would typically find them in the wild throughout open fields and light woodlands, you can find them right here at the shop starting today!
Stop by the Asylum to meet these adorable little ones in person and check out our full, diverse selection of high-quality invertebrates and exotic reptiles. Our knowledgeable, passionate staff is ready to help you get perfectly set up with all the necessary habitats, feeders, and supplies you need to keep your new spider happy and healthy. We look forward to seeing you at the shop soon!

Spotlight on our incredible Asian Forest Scorpions here at Asylum Pets!
These fascinating arachnids are truly a wonder to observe, as they much prefer to use their powerful, robust claws to capture and subdue their prey rather than relying on their stingers. It is honestly impressive to watch—our scorpions can easily crush a cricket with just one swift snap of a claw!
While scorpions and spiders are both members of the arachnid family, a key difference that makes these guys so unique is that a scorpion’s pedipalps have evolved into specialized, heavy-duty pincers designed for grasping and defense. These nocturnal creatures are naturally reclusive and typically spend their daylight hours safely tucked away in burrows or hiding under logs and stones.
Regarding their stingers: while they do possess them for defense, our Asian Forest Scorpions are generally quite skittish and calm. Their venom is not typically lethal to humans—at most, it may cause some mild pain or localized numbness—but they almost always prefer using those large pincers to ward off any potential threats rather than stinging.
If you're looking for a low-maintenance, captivating pet, these scorpions are a great choice! We invite you to stop by the shop today to see these amazing creatures—along with our wide variety of other reptiles, invertebrates, and supplies—for yourself. Our knowledgeable staff is here to assist with all of your exotic pet needs!

We have a few batches of eggs due to hatch soon. Featured here are the 13 eggs from the paring of Elizabeth Packard (arctic RBE pastel het sable/toffee belly) to a male extreme red albino het Sable. Due around October 11th!
Elizabeth Packard who our hognose mama is named after, was wrongfully committed to an insane asylum by her husband, who claimed she was insane for three years. She fought for her freedom and founded the Anti-Insane Asylum Society, advocating for women's rights and abolitionism.
Our stunning male hognose and Elizabeth's mate does not have a name yet. Would anyone care to help us out with suggestions? Bonus points if your suggestions fit our theme of famous historical asylum inmates or figures associated with the history of these institutions. Let us know your best ideas in the comments below!

Check out these two absolutely handsome male corn snakes that are available here at the Asylum! Each of these stunning reptiles features a completely unique pattern and truly striking, vibrant coloration that needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.
Corn snakes are widely considered the gold standard for pet reptiles, especially for beginners, thanks to their famously docile temperament, highly manageable adult size, and very straightforward care requirements. They are generally incredibly gentle, slow-moving, and rarely exhibit any signs of aggression, making them a fantastic choice for first-time owners. With the right husbandry and care, these resilient snakes can grow to be between 4 and 5 feet long and can live well into their 20s.
Pro tip for new keepers: While they are great pets, young corn snakes are notorious experts at finding even the tiniest gaps in their habitat. A secure, locked enclosure lid is absolutely essential to keep your new companion safe and sound.
Stop by the Asylum today to meet these two dapper gentlemen in person and take a look at our full selection of corn, and other snakes. Our knowledgeable team is here to help you get everything you need, from heat sources to substrates, to ensure your new enclosure setup is perfect for your new arrival!
