A podcast about two friends investigating what happens at the intersection of pop culture & policy. Hosted by @BrianEKennedy2 & @mariontjohnson. 🙅🏽♀️🙅🏿♂️
Brian & Marion are here with an emergency episode about the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the state of the British monarchy, and how pop culture portrayals of “relatable royals” help perpetuate support for a monarchy that doesn’t need to exist anymore https://t.co/mStua669eX
Hey yall,
So @AKCamardelle @justin_nalley & I wrote about Black students and community colleges.
The stats on inequitable outcomes for Black students are honestly devastating.
I won’t spoil it for you, but the upside is that many of the solutions are simple and time tested.
As the UK transitions from one very popular monarch to one very unpopular one, it'l be interesting to see how the divide between monarchists and royalists plays out when it comes to whether the monarchy still needs to exist. Catch our latest episode: https://t.co/mStua66H4v
This is the story behind our pain. Many people who survived the (1967-1970) holocaust against Igbo people—paid for by the British government—are still alive today. This is living memory.
Your faves @bmluse and @eeddings are back with two big announcements for the show! 👀
We've got big and bittersweet news to share 🥹
Listen to today's episode to get the scoop! https://t.co/twZa1C4qi5
Instead of giving cops a role in Abbott Elementary's storyline, Quinta Brunson bakes in abolitionist-aligned themes, like care, grace, and protection to the Black children who attend the school. #Emmys2022 https://t.co/1ysLEYS8CQ
Hi all, I'm back.
I'd like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to my loving partner Dr. Sirry Alang @ProfAlang and everyone who rallied for me here and elsewhere. Thanks for tweeting, talking, writing/signing support letters, etc. You showed me something very important: I have people.
Winning my Emmy was a career highlight, but it was also a lonely experience.
For 35 years I’ve been the only black woman to win Outstanding Supporting Actresses in a Comedy Series.
But that all changes tonight… and it’s come full circle! #Emmys
Why are we paying for police brutality?
“Civilian payouts for police misconduct cost local jurisdictions millions of dollars when taxpayer money could be spent in ways that help close the achievement gap and create jobs.”
I think the funniest thing about this tweet is the idea that if Black people were nicer, we’d get reparations. The fact that we havent blown up the Royal Palace, the White House or any other symbols of our oppressors is extremely nice of us, we are VERY nice to you people.
reminded of that eric williams observation: “The British historians wrote almost as if Britain had introduced Negro slavery solely for the satisfaction of abolishing it.”
