#Eritrea|s election to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) builds upon an expanding record of engagement across the @UN system. Although this will be Eritrea's first term as a member of #ECOSOC itself, #Eritrea has already accumulated valuable experience through service in several of the Council's subsidiary bodies and other important UN governing structures.
#Eritrea previously served on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), one of ECOSOC's principal functional commissions, and currently serves on both the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO Committee) and the United Nations Statistical Commission. These roles have enabled Eritrea to contribute to discussions on social development, civil society participation, and international statistical standards while gaining practical experience in multilateral negotiations, policymaking, and consensus-building.
Beyond ECOSOC's subsidiary bodies, Eritrea also serves on the Executive Council of the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries, where it contributes to efforts aimed at strengthening science, technology, innovation, and technological capacity-building among the world's least developed countries. This role reflects Eritrea's commitment to advancing development through knowledge, innovation, and international cooperation.
In addition, Eritrea currently serves as Vice-President of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2026, also served in that capacity in 2025...this is a significant leadership position within one of the @UN|s most important funds and programmes. In this capacity, #Eritrea participates in guiding the work of UNICEF and contributes modestly to discussions on policies, programmes, budgets, and initiatives affecting children around the world.
Taken together, Eritrea's service on the Commission on the Status of Women, the NGO Committee, the Statistical Commission, the Executive Council of the Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries, and the UNICEF Executive Board demonstrates that the country is not entering the ECOSOC system as a newcomer. Rather, it has steadily expanded its engagement across a range of @UN bodies and governance structures, building experience and credibility while contributing to international discussions on development, technology, social progress, and the well-being of children. Eritrea's election to #ECOSOC therefore represents not only a new responsibility but also a natural progression in its growing participation in the multilateral system.
A common misconception is that leadership positions within the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) are reserved for countries with substantial economic power or close relationships with institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
In reality, ECOSOC operates on fundamentally different principles. As an intergovernmental body of the UN, its leadership is determined not by economic weight or financial influence, but by political legitimacy, equitable regional representation, diplomatic engagement, demonstrated competence, and the confidence of fellow Member States.
This system reflects the UN principle of the sovereign equality of states and recognizes that countries of different sizes, levels of development, and political systems all have valuable perspectives and contributions to make to international economic and social policymaking.
In this regard, Eritrea's election to ECOSOC is both significant and well-deserved. Eritrea has steadily expanded its engagement within the UN system through service on a number of important bodies, including the Commission on the Status of Women, the Statistical Commission, the NGO Committee, the Executive Council of the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries, and the Executive Board of UNICEF, where it currently serves as Vice-President.
These responsibilities have enabled Eritrea to accumulate valuable experience in multilateral diplomacy, governance, consensus-building, and policy deliberation. Its election to ECOSOC therefore reflects the confidence of Member States in Eritrea's ability to contribute constructively to the Council's work and to assume greater responsibilities within the multilateral system.
Equally important is #Eritrea|s visibility and effectiveness in negotiations and multilateral diplomacy. The Mission has consistently sought to engage constructively in international discussions, promote dialogue, support consensus-based approaches, and contribute to the advancement of resolutions and outcomes that reflect the interests and concerns of developing countries. Within the UN, leadership often emerges not from economic power but from a demonstrated capacity to build bridges among diverse perspectives, facilitate dialogue across regional and political divides, and contribute pragmatically to collective solutions...#Eritrea has managed to do that...
Perhaps most important of all is the trust and confidence of fellow Member States. Leadership positions within ECOSOC are ultimately the result of elections and political support from governments across the @UN membership. Countries that are regarded as principled, consistent, constructive, and respectful of multilateral processes are often entrusted with greater responsibilities. Credibility within the UN is earned through engagement, performance, professionalism, and diplomacy rather than through financial influence or economic strength alone.
Eritrea's successful election to ECOSOC therefore represents more than the acquisition of a seat on one of the principal organs of the @UN . It is a recognition by the wider membership that #Eritrea has both the capacity and the legitimacy to contribute meaningfully to international discussions on economic and social development. It also demonstrates that meaningful influence within the UN remains rooted in participation, cooperation, and the confidence of Member States rather than in wealth, size, or alignment with any particular financial institution or geopolitical bloc.

When ever #Ethiopia makes diplomatic relationship with any nation or body in the world, #Eritrea could not careless, in fact it sees it as a positive act. Be it the west, the east, the south... anyone!
The moment Eritrea makes diplomatic relations with any nation, be it #US, #Russia, #Egypt, #Sudan, #Somaila ...some #Ethiopian elite and especially PP minions quake in their boots and rattle their teeth and go absolutely berserk.
One is the sign of maturity, confidence and know their place in the world, and the other is the sign of complex, immaturity and have no idea where they are going in the world.
🇪🇷 A Nation of Resilience, Pride, and Promise
Eritrea's development journey continues to earn recognition from international development partners.
According to UNDP Representative Pa Lapmin Beyai, one of Eritrea's most significant recent achievements is the drafting of a national development plan through broad consultations involving ministries, institutions, and the people who stand to benefit from its implementation.
Equally important is the Eritrea Population and Health Survey, undertaken through the National Statistics Office, which will provide critical data for planning, monitoring, and evaluating future development initiatives.
Strong institutions, evidence-based planning, and national ownership are the foundations of sustainable development. Eritrea continues to strengthen all three.

The scale of barbarity and inhumane killings and violence perpetrated by #Ethiopians against #Ethiopians since Abiy came to power is something I never knew #Ethiopian culture was capable of.
The gross pictures and videos that keep coming out which is not fit for public distribution is heart wrenching and can not be erased easily from your memory. People hacked with machetes, villages and harvests burned down, public ritual hanging.....against women, children, religious clergy, old,...& general human beings is being perpetrated in Abiy's #Ethiopia from 2018 till now. Under some sort of ethnic score settling....
The people are terrified and psychologically traumatized to speak, and since the cause is mainly ethnic based it is difficult to organise against it, without hundreds of thousands dying.
Abiy is not raising a finger or even feigning a concern and is effectively brewing another Rwanda! He must be stopped before it is too late for #Ethiopia!
Meanwhile, he is attempting to bamboozle the poor Ethiopian public with neon-lighted streets and fairy tale sea-access ownership.
