The dude even goes as far as to say if he was making a film to cater to South Koreans he would want to respect their culture. So this debate was very clearly about culture. Not sure how you are enterpretting it otherwise.

Some people prefer strict cultures and others don’t. I’m not a really political guy so I don’t want to engage in these debates.
