"Athena remains the X-ray observatory posed to deliver transformational results"
What a journey! We want to thank all the participants of this conference for making such a lively and exciting meeting. Seeing different generations of X-ray astronomers all together, sharing their breakthrough science has been simply amazing. The #Athena2022 LOC.
However, we acknowledge that there is still a long road ahead to level the playing field, as the data on gender balance at this conference show. We firmly believe that science thrives in inclusive & diverse communities. It’s our mission to continue to improve this representation.
Gender imbalance remains a big issue in our community. You may have noticed that none of the session chairs at #Athena2022 were male. We made this choice to prioritise voices that are traditionally marginalised in science.
We are all very curious about what we should expect from NewAthena. Let’s find out with the final talk of this conference, “The NewAthena mission” by Frederic Safa. #Athena2022
And we are kicking off the final session of our 3rd Athena Meeting dedicated to Athena in the wider context of scientific missions. The first talk by Giorgio Matt is on the Scientific highlights of the IXPE mission #Athena2022
The penultimate talk of this session is given by Randall Smith on behalf of Andrew Ptak to give an overview of NASA's involvement with Athena #Athena2022
Aaaand we are back on #Athena2022 with a session all dedicated to instrumentation! Our first (online) speaker is Gunther Hasinger who will present “Athena in the ESA Science Program”.
