A couple weeks ago, I met with Audrey McInnis, a resident of Athens-Clarke County who was recently displaced from her home due to increased rent prices after Prosperity Capital Partners, a Florida-based investment group, bought several affordable housing neighborhoods in Athens.

Prosperity Capital Partners has purchased approximately 800 units in Athens. They are increasing rents by 30-100% and kicking out Section 8 tenants. This will only worsen the current affordable housing crisis in Athens and lead to more houslessness.
