BREAKING: The Lafayette Leopards advance to the round of 32 after defeating Purdue in a defensive slugfest, 56-51. The #8 Leopards will face 1 seed North Carolina.
All signs point toward the Leopards getting eliminated at the hands of the Big Ten again. Call us crazy though, but we don't think Lafayette will blink despite having scored only one major conference win this season against lowly Depaul. We like the upset.

Purdue 64
Previewing the first round matchup up between #8 Lafayette (+3) and #9 Purdue:
Tale of the Tape
Purdue Roster Rating: 13.338
Lafayette Roster Rating: 12.813
Purdue SOR: 30
Lafayette SOR: 37
Common Opponents: Purdue annihilated Patriot opponent Loyola MD 80-49 in non-con play; Lafayette beat the Greyhounds 74-45 and 74-71.
The Boilers also ran through similarly rated midmajors, defeating Detroit (12.588) 84-53, Miami OH (12.838) 75-54, and Valparaiso (13.3) 79-75.
We don't like picking chalk and the Patriot Tournament has taught us that's a mistake, but we think there's a round 3 between the two best teams on the horizon...our sleeper is Army. Winners of 6 straight and it wouldn't surprise us to see the Black Knights make a run.
Some notes in advance of the Patriot League Tournament:
- Lafayette, despite back-to-back regular season titles, will be looking to win the tournament for the first time in sim history.
Predictions:
Lafayette 82 Navy 73
Boston U 67 Lehigh 66
Army 64 Loyola MD 60
Holy Cross 76 Colgate 64
Lafayette 68 Boston U 66
Holy Cross 64 Army 58
Lafayette 66 Holy Cross 64
Lehigh has knocked Lafayette out of the postseason twice in the past two seasons, first a 1 vs. 8 upset, then a tournament final loss in S4, 56-52 behind the duo of Cullen McKinnon and Rowan Gilbert.
- Its half of the bracket did no favors: A win against #8 Navy will pit the Leopards vs. either Boston U or Lehigh. BU served Lafayette its only conference defeat of the season and almost delivered a second loss, with Lafayette only winning by a point in its most recent matchup.
Congrats to @HeatCbb on back-to-back conference titles, and Jaren King as our conference POY. We'll have a conference tournament preview up soon. #heatchecksim
