@guildofdads It's a weird situation. A massive threat that's best fought by most of us by staying inside and doing nothing. It's probably more to do with boredom of being cooped up as much as anything. Stay calm, plan what you can, rotate streaming services, declutter & enjoy the staycation.
@MyWhatBigTeeth We had to do the run to the store thing here as everything is getting cleaned out. What's bizarre to me was the cold and flu medicine section had barely been touched.
@DecideOrSlide@TheAtlantic The dating market also has an effect on relationships in that there is at least the appearance of the ability to replace your partner easily. I've seen people divorcing enjoying the dating world much better and much worse than they expected.
@DecideOrSlide So in lay terms, ugly ducklings that do (or can) turn into swans, still believe they are ugly ducklings and look to date other ugly ducklings or at least be treated like them. Am I close?
@DecideOrSlide I think the problem is at the "pretty happy" phase, it doesn't look or feel that bad, but it is in fact a serious warning sign. I see people ignoring it all the time, then something breaks and now they want to fix it. Except it's vastly harder to fix unhappy than pretty happy.
@llmunro It's completely normal resistance that happens on every writing project. It doesn't mean anything other than you're 90% of the way through. You might like "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield.
@JackCanfield That's a complex question. It can evoke a lot of negative feelings about the present, which make getting to your desired future harder. I think you have to enjoy the now, to get to an enjoyable then.
@Jess_A_Maxwell My question would be whether or not FWB that turn into more serious relationships, are more likely to experience significant anxious and avoidant attachment issues later on.
@NickWolfinger My wife and I are very similar, but being from New Zealand and living in America is a background stressor. Just getting to see my family becomes this huge effort. Plus to be honest a little nepotism would have helped me lol. It's more logistics than culture shock as the issue.
@DecideOrSlide Plus there's the whole thing where one partner already knows they aren't going to marry the other, but the other is doing a ton of stuff for them in hope/expectation of eventually getting married. So talking and making disinterest in marriage explicit, isn't in their interest.
@GottmanInst Let's say you emphatically experience just 2% of the trauma the client feels for an affair situation. What happens when you have 200 such clients, over a four year period? It's clearly NOT the same as being cheated on, but there is this constant background stress ticking away.
