After being in the UK several times, I think I finally have a summary of something that's been disturbing. Our tourism sector is monolithic in an insidious way. "Come see animals" - that's it. Meanwhile what makes good tourism is "come see who we are".
@odanga_r@museumsofkenya I have yet to see a well curated museum in all of Kenya. Its really shameful and sad to see almost zero accounts of our history and culture
The undeniable truth white racists must swallow. This coastline, from Cape Town to Durban to Port Elizabeth, is African coastline. The sand is African sand. The freedom to access it was paid for in blood, struggle, and resilience.
Therefore, the instruction is simple, direct, and non-negotiable.
Go to the beach. Go in numbers.
Go to every beach that once had a visible or invisible “WHITES ONLY” sign.
Go with your grill, your music, your family, and your right to be there. Occupy the scenery. Fill the frame. Redefine what “normal” looks like.
Your joy is your power. Your presence is your claim. Your collective rest and leisure on land that was stolen is a revolutionary act.
To every Black person. Your belonging is not up for debate. The sea is yours. The shore is yours. This is home. Reclaim it, one joyful day at a time. ✊🏾

The destruction on Watamu recreational park is devastating 😔😔😔
They’re cutting down indigenous trees that have stood there for decades, some over a century!
It’s not like there is no other land for the affordable housing project. There is plenty in the vicinity. It’s just wanton destruction of a park 🥹🥹🥹

Europe bans highly toxic chemicals at home, then exports them to African farmers — RT exclusive
'We weren't told they are harmful,' says a Kenyan farmer, accusing Europeans of using Africa as a testing ground
Cancer from these pesticides is already affecting everyone there
The Catholic Church built a community water project in Mutitu in 2009 to serve over 30,000 residents of Nyeri, Laikipia and Nyahururu. Crooked officials tried to unlawfully take over the project lakini the Court ordered that all assets be returned to community. After being Defeated in court, Water Resources Authority officials, backed by armed police, destroyed water meters, damaged the water outlet and redirected the water back into the river.
This reminded me of an incident in Tongaren constituency where some Mzungus installed massive Solar panels to supply electricity to resident of Tabani ward, only for Moses Wetangu & the then Area Mp Eseli Simiyu to chase him away saying that the Mzungu is interfering with govt projects & that it's govt mandate to connect Kenyans with electricity. To date, Tabani has no electricity & the area MP chikati has no vision at all.
