even though Muslims are the most charitable group in the country, make up a large part of the NHS and are active in public service. Not to mention 1.5 million Muslims were killed fighting for the allies in WW2.
Spoke about the media's role in stoking Islamophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment at the 10 year anniversary of @VoiceOfIslamUK conference. Pleased to be invited to share my thoughts. ⬇️
British tabloids and right wing media are running riot with the peace of the country with inflammatory headlines and negative coverage of Muslims and immigrants. It's no wonder 41% of Brits now believe Muslims contribute negatively to the UK...

False narratives, dubious headlines and one-sided reporting.
Here’s how Western media continues to justify America and Israel’s brutal war of aggression in the Middle East.
His Holiness Pope Leo XIV (@Pontifex), I condemn the insult to Your Excellency on behalf of the great nation of Iran, and declare that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is not acceptable to any free person. I wish you glory by Allah.
The fact that Iran's president is honouring Jesus and the Pope while Trump insults both, and US-Israeli bombs destroyed a synagogue in Tehran last week, while Israel bombed churches in Gaza, is quite telling.

As journalists, we should be careful about not unknowingly parroting warmongering propaganda wrapped up in succinct buzzwords like "regime change."
It's the same arguments we heard in 2003; let's not repeat the mistakes of the past. We all know where "regime change" leads to.
For those insisting on using the word "regime" to refer to the Iranian government, this passage from Steven Poole's book Unspeak is relevant.
We clearly learnt nothing from the Iraq War.
Using "regime" to describe Iran justifies the US and Israel's aggression on the country. A regime always needs to be changed as it is "illegitimate" - but many Iranians don't agree.
Besides why should we dictate the political system of another nation?
According to this, the Strait of Hormuz is fully open to all civilian ships, including American. Only because the US has imposed a war on them, they've had to lay mines and create a system to coordinate civilian cargo through. Stop the war, the ships sail.
Exclusive: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister @SKhatibzadeh tells me for @itvnews the Strait of Hormuz is open to all civilian shipping and reports it is closed are wrong. However, due to mines as a consequence of the war, all vessels need to liaise with Iran to be guided along safe routes.
“Anybody who communicates with the Iranian authority has got permission to pass.”
@emmamurphyitv@itvnews@SKhatibzadeh Credit to ITV News. They do a better job of asking questions than the BBC without the accusatory tone and judgement which doesn't get us any answers. At least here we've got new information and you've let the minister answer properly.
