The Center for Minority Veterans has a statutorily defined mission to provide Veterans a voice and representation within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The primary goal for Minority Veteran Program Coordinators (MVPC) is to increase the awareness of issues pertaining to minority Veterans. This includes developing long-term strategies to encourage eligible minority Veterans to participate in VA benefit programs. Additionally, MVPCs advocate on behalf of minority Veterans and recommend ways to improve the delivery of services within VA facilities.
Minority Veteran Program Coordinators are a direct point of contact for you to learn more about what benefits you qualify for, assist you with applying for those benefits, and refer you to other organizations and resources that will help you meet your needs.
A Veteran who recommended Kapriyah Crosby for a DAISY Award had this to share about her. “I want to thank nurse Crosby for not only listening to me but hearing me. That meant more to me than I can't fully express, she was kind and patient. She took her time to explain my diagnosis, helped me understand the necessary changes I needed to make, and help me shift my perspective and know that change starts with me. Because of her, I am looking at congestive heart failure not as a death sentence but as an obstacle I can overcome because like she says, ‘it is what in your cabinet that you have to change’ and the entire diet plan for me on my phone. I have more clarity hope and confidence in myself and my health.”
