Negotiating zero-for-zero is just rebranding free trade. Tariffs must remain permanent tools within a comprehensive industrial policy crucial for revitalizing domestic production and creating millions of stable, working-class jobs. https://t.co/ffiAQO8yE1
Treasury secretary must handle and/or be deeply involved in tax, tariffs for CBP agency, trade, sanctions, export controls, USMCA review in 2026, CFIUS, across the board tariffs (for revenue and keeping other taxes reasonable). Its Not just a job overseeing the sale of US treasury bonds. Not just free flow of capital. Not just finance.
Best Treasury secretaries in history were not Wall Street money guys. They are James Baker for Reagan and John Connolly for Nixon. Oh and Alexander Hamilton. All of them focused on the REAL economy - not just financial assets and services - in multidimensional and imaginative ways that Wall Street guys don’t and won’t.
@michael_stumo@elonmusk@realDonaldTrump@howardlutnick If Trump is serious about #MAGA goals, the most fundamental change needed is to break from globalist policies and have treasury secretary, NEC advisors, etc who are unequivocally committed to the full panoply of tariff uses. Otherwise, Trump’s promises to workers won’t come true.
@elonmusk@realDonaldTrump@howardlutnick@realDonaldTrump must choose treasury secretary, NEC advisors, etc who are unequivocally committed to using the full panoply of tariffs. Otherwise, #MAGA goals cannot succeed and Trump’s promises will go unfilled, especially promises made to the working people who elected him.
Best place for him to be effective as Trade Czar would be as Treasury Secretary. Treasury has the tools and resources. It has statutory authority and staff. Czar’s need to convince others to implement their will. @realDonaldTrump will achieve more with Lighthizer as Treasury.
Henry Ford fixed watches and built steam engines as a kid. The Wright brothers built printing presses before they built bicycles and became famous for flight.
Our children must be inspired by America's great industrialists and inventors and learn their stories.
