Should we just bring back our old Nigerian buildings at this point?

Because honestly… what exactly are we building now in the name of “modern architecture”?

Can many of these buildings truly be called architectural masterpieces?

I actually pity most architecture students in Nigeria because;

Where will they go for inspiration?

What you see consistently shapes your design standards.

If all you see are cramped boxes called “luxury apartments,” your mind will start accepting mediocrity as excellence.

At this rate, we might just start organizing excursions like this...maybe na to carry all the students go study older buildings for inspiration.

Take for example the colonial-style Nnamdi Azikiwe Building in Enugu.

There are so many lessons there because many of those colonial buildings were actually adaptations of African architecture principles.

And one major lesson?
Sunshades.
Sunshades.
Sunshades.

Important things must be said three times.

In case you don’t know:
👉 Your roof overhang is also a sun-shading device.
Be like say na to dey collect school fees back from some people o 😅

Another critical element is windows.

Not those tiny, cramped openings that give you one slice of air.😁

I mean wide, properly positioned, cross-ventilated openings.
Yes, that is what a window is supposed to be.

But today, cramped houses with tiny window slits are now being marketed as LUXURY APARTMENTS.

Ah! As how na?

House where you cannot:
- Park two cars comfortably
- Have a small garden
- Give children space to play
- Host family gatherings outdoors
…Yet you call that luxury?

We are gradually losing something important.
- No more evening football in compounds.
- No more extended family gatherings outside.
- No more breathing space.

True luxury is comfort, space, light, ventilation, and functionality, not just POP ceiling and shiny tiles.

Make I no talk too much.🙈

The on-field remonstration between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during the match against Mozambique has been addressed internally. All issues have been resolved, and reports suggesting otherwise should be disregarded.

The Super Eagles will hold a recovery session today in Fès. Twenty-six players are expected to train, while injured defender Ryan Alebiosu continues his rehabilitation.

Akor Adams did not leave camp on a long-term basis. He only stepped out briefly to see his parents, who are in Fès and live just a few minutes from the team’s hotel.
