@elvenmaidinn This is a great article that explains how I feel about monstrous races being normalized and made funny/cute. If you rip the teeth out of a shark, it's just another fish. If you take the element of fear away from these races, you're literally taking away a prime storytelling tool.

This is complete and utter nonsense. It makes blanket statements that it can't back up. "Rejecting colonialist ideals in our fantasy roleplaying games makes them better." This is some bullshit that people who pretend to be offended on other people's behalf would spout. It's like saying, "We want a story, but we don't want conflict." Colonialism is the root of so much conflict in any world. And conflict is an absolute necessity in telling stories. Unless you want boring ass conflict that doesn't go beyond the interpersonal scale, you need colonialist ideals in your setting. Colonialist ideals are at the heart of so much conflict. "That person has something I want. I'm going to take it." Remove that and you're left with: "My fee-fees were hurt because that person over there said a mean thing to me." This garbage will never find its way to my table. We like actual stories that have conflicts with stakes and scale to them.

Rings of Power is a loathsome show that actively shits on the IP of the logo they slapped on the cover. Not only is this a garbage LotR show, but it's also just a garbage fantasy show if you look at it as its own thing. Nothing makes sense at all.

There is nothing "canon" about Rings of Stupid.

Quite literally 0% accuracy to the source material.

Galadriel, or should I say GUYladriel, is one of the worst offenses to character adaptation in the past decade.

At no point in Galadriel's life did she put on armor and fight orcs, nor was she at the sack of Eregion, nor did she travel to Forodwaith to hunt for Sauron, nor did she get sent back to Valinor by Gil-galad, nor did she jump off a ship and try to swim back to Middle-earth, nor did she lead a cavalry charge in Mordor, nor was she present for the forging of the three rings, nor did she encourage the forging of the three rings, nor did she jump off a cliff after getting in a sword fight with Sauron, nor did she ever have a sword fight with Sauron, much less anyone ever.

Canonically, the majority of the first, as well as all of the second and third ages of Middle-earth, see her be an advisor, wife, and mother.

So, to answer your question, no, it isn't canon, and that's one of many reasons why Rings of Stupid is such an awful TV show.

One thing that always amuses me about the people who shill for Rings of Trash is when you prove how much the show bastardizes the canonical lore, and their retort is "bUt wHat aBOuT tHe jACksOn fiLmS?!"

Yes. It is true. Jackson did take some liberties with the lore (Some of which I find somewhat inexcusable. See Faramir and Denethor) However, there are 3 fundamental differences between the films and the tv show that I will illustrate for you now:

1. Production quality. Let's call a spade a spade. The Rings of Power production looks like whole ass. Trash costume design, trash cgi, trash greenscreen work, horrible fight choreography. The list goes on and on. Contrast that with PJ's LotR trilogy, which even though it is 23 freaking years old, still looks better than the majority of productions that come out today.

2. Writing. Do I even need to explain how terrible the writing is in Rings of Power? Purple prose ad nauseum, characters spelling out the characteristics of other characters to those characters because the writers think the audience is retarded (Example: Elrond telling Cirdan that he is the oldest and wisest, when we can clearly see that he is old and potentially wise). Let's contrast that with PJ's trilogy, which has very immersive script writing. Characters talk to each other in a very matter of fact way, and in the rare event that prose are used, it is contextually relevant to the scene playing out. Also, the characteristics of the various people we see in the films are shown to us, not explained through tedious exposition.

3. Intent. As stated previously, Jackson did take liberties with the lore. It's an undeniable fact. Some of those changes I have serious problems with. That being said, those liberties were not taken from a place of malicious intent. Jackson is on record saying that one of the first pledges that he and the rest of his team made was to keep their personal beliefs out of the films, and hopefully create something that Tolkien would enjoy watching. And you can see that effort. There isn't any political or social commentary in those films at all, the directing and writing are brilliant, and if you divorce the films from the canon, they are still fantastic to watch.

Contrast that with Rings of Stupid, where the crew for that heap of dog shite came out and explicitly stated that they wanted to write the story Tolkien never wrote. They didn't just take a few liberties with the canon. They took the books outside and set them on fire. I've said it many times: Zero canonical accuracy. You have a mock MAGA rally in S1, humanization of orcs, humanization of Sauron (whose name literally translates to "The Abhorred") They took a character that is meant to be wise and aethereal, a mother and wife, and turned her into an insufferable, retarded girlboss. All of this to appeal to the mythical "modern audience" which amounts to a handful of ideologically entrenched activists who have never read a word of Tolkien's writing in their lives.

So, to the Rings of Power shills on X/Twitter: Bringing up the Jackson films isn't the own you think it is, and it's painfully obvious to me and many others that the only reason you guys bring it up is to avoid acknowledging the objective criticisms of this show.
