A nice summary of why I moved on from ML for PDEs. The literature on weather & climate modeling isn't perfect, but the baselines are certainly much more compelling and easier to find.
It's currently just a building site I walk past on campus, but soon this will be the ECMWF's new UK home. I'm excited we're creating the world's largest concentration of weather and climate scientists, right here at the University of Reading.
Had a chance to revisit this note https://t.co/OSk4dZiSkV, which I wrote after I saw a "Riemann-solver-free" scheme at a conference in 2017. It is indeed Riemann-solver-free but not dissipation-free since it had to rely on cell-averaging for stabilization (which is dissipation).

A finite-difference formula that is usually called a first-order or one-sided approximation, can be second-order accurate, depending on the location where the derivative is considered approximated. As an advection scheme, the order of accuracy depends on where du/dt is evaluated.
Tomorrow is the last day of 36th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology! We hope you enjoyed the conference so far and learned a lot throughout the week. See you tomorrow for one more day! #AMS36Hurr

Atmospheric boundary layer (Español: Capa límite atmosférica) — The bottom layer of the troposphere that is in contact with the surface of the earth.

11th-order accurate scheme. This is my first time to try out an 11th-order accurate scheme constructed based on 10th-order polynomials. This is what a numerical solution looks like on a coarse two-element grid (with multiple solution points in each element).
Professor Mike Wallace received the Japan Prize along with Professor Sir Brian Hoskins from the UK. Their research established a scientific foundation for understanding and forecasting extreme weather and climate events that the world is experiencing.

⚡Effect of Reynolds Number on Fluid Flow around a Cylinder⚡
The effect of Reynolds number on a 2D incompressible viscous flow around a cylinder. The flow field is color coded according to velocity.
2023 was not only the warmest year on record, but almost every day since July has seen a new global air temperature high for the time of year.
We do not fully understand what happened last year.

My first contribution to MetPy adds the ability to parse the rotated lat/lon projection used by Canada's HRDPS model, which you can download with the latest version of Herbie https://t.co/1D3b18TB4g
