- The NDC attempted to introduce Mobile Money Interoperability in 2015 but failed

- They awarded a contract to Sibton Switch Company at the cost of $1.2billion

- The company still couldn’t execute the mandate till the NPP came to power in 2016

- New Bank of Ghana Management realised the cost of the project was inflated

- The Procurement was skewed in favour of Roland Agambire (RLG Fame), John Mahama’s partner on several project including the never fulfilled Hope City Project.

- The tender price of Sibton was 33 times more expensive than the next most expensive bid and yet they corruptly gave it to Sibton Switch

- The Bank of Ghana identified some members of staff complicit in the corrupt procurement of the contract and was subsequently dismissed from the Bank

- Sibton switch sued Ghana at the international Arbitration court in the UK citing some absurd clauses and making claim to an amount of $478milllon for no work done

- GoG and BOG eventually won the case at the court of arbitration and Sibton was thrown out

- The Bank of Ghana has instituted disciplinary action against several staff of the Bank after Emails and Bank Accounts showed they taking bribes from Sibton Switch to skew the procurement.

- GOG subsequently reawarded the contract at a cost of $4.5million saving Ghana close to a whopping $1billion

- ultimately, this new arrangement has delivered a full scale mobile money interoperability which has enhanced how we have financial interactions in Ghana.

- You are able to move money from your bank account to your mobile money wallet and vice Versace’s well as between one network to another network on your fingers.

- Mobile Money according to a Stanbic Bank research in 2020 has emerged to be the most preferred digital payment with subscriber increase of about 20%

- According to the Bank of Ghana report, Total value of Mobile money transactions in 2022 was over GHc1.07 trillion. It was GHc78.5billion in 2016.

- This far surpasses cheque transactions

- Financial interaction amongst SMEs, poor and remote communities is enhanced as a result of the mobile money interoperability

- Forget the Procurment Fraud with the Sibton Swith contract

- Forget the time Loss and money as a result of the litigation

This is Vision, this is Progress, this is a Big win for Ghana in the global digital and economic Space.
