#Manipur The battle of narratives, an insightful article by @AnganaC on the social media war of #ManipurViolence.

#ChinKukis were off the mark first and clearly had the first goer advantage. They even shelled out Rs 1-Rs 1.5 lakhs for internet. Their handles mushroomed and tweeted actively with well-coordinated messaging.

❗️Meitei-associated handles got into the narrative game later but quickly came up to speed and were actively tweeting. #ManipurFightsBack

❗️51% of Kuki-affiliated handles created on/after May 3 Vs 40% for Meitei-affiliated handles.

❗️The ITLF is spearheading the #ChinKuki narrative and had a strong presence on X since the start of the conflict while the Meitei community did not have such a singular voice.

❗️ITLF handle was launched in May 2023 and has around 19K followers.

❗️Pleased to see @meiteiheritage being quoted and the reason why we came up i.e to bust the “pre-planned false narrative that followed in sections of the national media and the social media to malign the image of Manipur and split the state.”

“The plan”, (of the #Kukis) said the member, “was to weave a false story around minority tribals Christian Vs majority Meiteis to hide the real issues of the violence: illegal immigration from Myanmar, Illegal poppy cultivation & drug business and deforestation/encroachment into forest land.”

❗️Unfortunately, the article mentions details of other handles and their followers but not of @meiteiheritage (We have requested them to include).

❗️ Today @meiteiheritage has the largest followers among handles that came up after the violence, almost twice that of ITLF, which is a testimony of our efforts and credibility to tell the world the real story of the #ManipurViolence.

FIR has been filed against the accused, Lemtinsei Singson, commander of the United Tribal Liberation Army, which comes under Kuki National Organisation currently under SoO agreement with the Govt of India. This arrest is particularly significant as it raises concerns over the alleged misuse of the SoO agreement by Kuki insurgent groups for unlawful activities.

On 3 May, videos of alleged Kuki militants participating in the solidarity rally against the ST demand of Meiteis surfaced on social media.

Such evidences beg the question if the current problems can be traced back to this SoO pact with the Kuki militant groups directly or indirectly.

It is imperative that the GoI to Abrogate SoO in Manipur !
