Yesterday we celebrated #ChildrensDay. Let us remember that a significant number of the victims of the Ukrainian genocide in the Southeastern Borderlands of the Second Polish Republic were children. Contrary to the claims of all Volhynia genocide deniers, it must be clearly stated that this was neither a "conflict" nor "fratricidal fights," but a brutal genocide perpetrated against innocent civilians.

The photograph below is one of the most harrowing images from the archive of Dr. Leon Popek, who conducted the exhumations in Ostrówki, Volhynia. On 29–30 August 1943, a unit of the UPA led by Ivan Klymchak "Łysy" (Baldy) murdered 1,066 Poles there and in the neighboring village of Wola Ostrowiecka, including 466 children under the age of 14.

During the exhumations at the "Field of the Dead" in Ostrówki, a mass grave containing several hundred Polish women and children was uncovered. Many girls' braids were found, still preserved on tiny skulls.

"These people were ordered to lie down on the ground and were then killed. Next to a woman lay a small boy. She was shot in the head, and her brain splattered across her son's face. The Ukrainians thought the child was dead," said archaeologist Olaf Popkiewicz.
