Usually when we face a low block, it becomes easy for opponents to overload Lamine’s side, shut it down, and neutralize most of our danger. That mainly happens because we don’t really have any wide threat on the left, Raphinha doesn’t hold width there, and Balde doesn’t have any end product. So teams can afford to focus almost entirely on the right side without getting punished.

But tonight was different, especially in the second half. It was very clear Atleti were heavily focused on closing down Lamine on the right, and I kept thinking there was no need to force everything through that side when we had both Cancelo and Rashford offering width and threat on the left.

Even after Rashford came off, Cancelo alone was still enough to stretch them, create danger from wide areas, and punish them for overloading one side.

This aspect is honestly my favourite thing he’s bringing to the team since joining on loan.
