It goes deeper and longer than a lot of people want to admit.

Listen to what the province is saying — especially people who have lived here 25 years or more.

This may be one of the strongest cases for Alberta independence Keith Wilson has made yet.

What made it especially compelling was the Q&A, which starts around the 30-minute mark.

He wasn’t just speaking to supporters.

He was challenged by law professors, economists, former political leaders and other experienced voices on the practical, constitutional and economic questions around independence.

And his arguments held up under serious scrutiny.

This is worth watching in full and sharing with someone you think could benefit from seeing it.

Canada is running deficits, carrying a mountain of federal debt, and telling people at home to wait.

Wait for a family doctor.
Wait for a surgery.
Wait for a house they can actually afford.

Then Ottawa still finds $13 billion a year for international assistance — and has committed $25 billion-plus to Ukraine since 2022, including billions in military aid and loans.Some of that aid is grants. Some is loans. Some is even counted as “foreign aid” for refugees already inside Canada. Fine. Publish the receipts.

What is not fine is the posture:
we can be generous abroad while the basic deal at home is slipping. You cannot tell nurses, renters, and small businesses there is “no fiscal room,” then treat overseas envelopes as untouchable. Charity after solvency is adult government.

Charity instead of solvency is a press release.

Fix the books.
Fix the waits.
Then argue about the next billion sent overseas.

This does not sound like a leader of the free world to me when his own country is drowning.

Alberta receives federal health and social transfers, as every province does. Nobody serious denies that. What Alberta does not receive is equalization. Finance Canada’s 2026-27 tables list Alberta at zero. That is not a talking point invented at a town hall. It is the program’s own output.Equalization is supposed to go to provinces with lower fiscal capacity. That part of your note is correct. It does not follow that Albertans are not allowed to ask whether the formula still matches need.

The envelope has kept growing with an economic escalator even when gaps between provinces change. Premier Smith’s public proposal has been to equalize to demonstrated need and stop automatic over-growth. You can reject that proposal. You cannot pretend the argument is “she hid the definition of equalization.”On disability benefits, the record is also more specific than your charge.

AISH’s maximum has been $1,940 a month. ADAP’s core rate is $1,740. That is $200, not $400. People moved from AISH to ADAP were given a transition top-up that holds them at the old amount until the end of 2027. Government materials also say they can apply to be assessed for AISH.

Critics are right that the lower ADAP base is a real cut if the top-up expires. They are not right that the government already slashed cheques by $400 in 2027. If the attack has to inflate the number and move the date, the underlying case is weaker than it sounds.

The 2024 population comments are not a secret either. Smith did talk about a long-term doubling target on the Newman podcast. She later said the speed of recent growth outran schools and hospitals. Those statements should be read together, not as a gotcha that she “forgot” her own interview. Wanting more permanent residents over time, while asking whether temporary residents should pay more for some services, is a policy tension. It is not proof of a hidden plot.

A referendum is expensive. A non-binding vote should have to justify its cost. That is a fair hit. It is not the same as proving the rest of the file is a smear-worthy fraud. Likewise, 38% approval in one September poll is a political problem for any premier. It is not a finding of “higher offences,” and it is not the same as party vote share. Other recent polls still show a competitive UCP, not a government that has already lost the right to govern.

If the standard is evidence, use the actual figures: zero equalization to Alberta, $200 ADAP base gap, top-up through 2027, a real referendum price tag, and mixed polling. If the standard is resignation by accusation, that is politics, not proof.

When coverage repeatedly echoes the same talking points and treats inconvenient outcomes as afterthoughts, people start to wonder whether they are receiving reporting or a paid-for narrative. Once that trust erodes, it becomes even harder to tell who is trying to inform the public and who is simply protecting a story.”
