@dirtydalerz@AndrewYang And tell me, if this “leverage” you claim we have comes at the cost of destroying international relations which then causes an increase on most good, even the ones you claim are “coming” back to the US (which they aren’t), that’s enough for you? Higher costs. Weakened relations.
@ColdHardTweet@IrishWeedBloke@dirtydalerz@AndrewYang Socialist. Oooo big scary word. Ignore the facts, but what you cannot ignore is the growing hole in your wallet because the current administration is hard-press in doing performative theater at the cost of people’s welfare and livelihood
@Deeky8383@dirtydalerz@AndrewYang I agree in principle. However, recent policies are targeting goods the US cannot & does not have the capacity to do. A number of “cheap” goods you buy require outsourcing. These policies aren’t making it more likely these goods are produced here as it is impossible logistically
@IrishWeedBloke@dirtydalerz@AndrewYang Wouldn’t you agree that tariffs targeting a disproportionate share of the population (minorities) is more targeted? Trump’s economic policy is destructive to the jobs we already have here. The opposite goal of the tariffs is happening. American investment is being reduced.
@dirtydalerz@AndrewYang Tariffs are regressive. Meaning lower to middle class people pay higher prices b/c of them. With Trump tariffs, less inventory means higher prices. The “cheap” goods you buy,m rn due to tightening your belt, will be less available & more costlier. Trumps tariffs are a disaster.
@MaduroUCDE@JakeThe53997336@FlanningFames@Public_Citizen So you are dodging & strawmanning the conversation. Again, I may have expected too much from someone entrenched in conservative echo chambers. Just final point, healthcare is a human right. & even you (yes you) have a right to good universal quality healthcare w/o fear of cost.
@MaduroUCDE@JakeThe53997336@FlanningFames@Public_Citizen Which again, free at the point of service. No one is saying it just magically appears or that we devalue the work of health providers. On the contrary. But like anything, you need funds which as a society, we pay into so you have the freedom to use something you have a right to.
@MaduroUCDE@JakeThe53997336@FlanningFames@Public_Citizen See the thing is, you are strawmanning the issue here. We aren’t talking about food or housing (which also would be something we strive to works toward, “affordable” housing). No one is giving anything away.
It sounds like your main issue is when it’s called free healthcare.
@MaduroUCDE@JakeThe53997336@FlanningFames@Public_Citizen No one is saying the government should take the mantle of feeding directly people (though it already does by giving subsidies and credits to farmers and corps.) But healthcare is an area that gov’t certainly can cover. Which is already done in the rest of the developed world.
@MaduroUCDE@JakeThe53997336@FlanningFames@Public_Citizen You described food stamps for impoverished people. Funded by taxes, but it’s a social safety net for those in need. People have a right to a meal. There’s sectors that the private sector excels at providing like restaurants/grocery stores for those that can afford it on their own
@MaduroUCDE@JakeThe53997336@FlanningFames@Public_Citizen Apologies. I made the mistake of assuming you had some reading & reasoning comprehension. Perhaps you need to be spoon fed points instead of actually thinking & understanding on your own . Yes, eating food is a basic human right similar to the other things that has been said.
@MaduroUCDE@FlanningFames@JakeThe53997336@Public_Citizen Assuming you live in the U.S, I’m assuming you heard of the clean air and water bill. We have a right to those things. But extension access to food is also a right. Hence why food deserts are a major concern. Again, congrats. You reached a logical conclusion.
@MaduroUCDE@FlanningFames@JakeThe53997336@Public_Citizen With that logic then neither does healthcare. *However* paid taxes help facilitate that so we can fund and use the services and programs that allow us to exercise those rights. Congrats. You reached the logical conclusion.
@MaduroUCDE@FlanningFames@JakeThe53997336@Public_Citizen It’s free at the point of service. You pay taxes for police, fire, roads, social services as well. Which you use on a per need basis because you have a right to safety & travel. Much like you have a right to healthcare. You contribute to the program that allows for the service.
