I am in Glasgow this week for the 2026 British Blood Transfusion Society Conference, where I'll be presenting "๐๐ง๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ, ๐๐จ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ: ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ ๐๐ญ๐๐ญ๐, ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐."
Haemovigilance isn't a word many people know. But it's the difference between a health system that hopes for the best with every transfusion and one that actually tracks what happens after the blood goes in and fixes what's broken.
Rivers State gave us the data. This research is what we do with it.
Thank you to the British Blood Transfusion Society and @univgroningen for the platform. Looking forward to the conversations ahead.

Policy isnโt abstract when youโve sat with a midwife on night call
A few years ago, I sat in a small primary health centre in a riverside community, listening to a midwife describe how she kept a torch and a notebook by her bed because the call could come at any time. She was the only skilled birth attendant for several villages.
When we later designed aspects of the state health strategy, that image stayed with me. One woman, one torch, one notebook, carrying the weight of an entire communityโs maternal health. Policy, for me, stopped being abstract the moment I realised it would determine whether she had backup, drugs, transport, and support.
Good health policy is not about perfect wording. It is about changing what that midwifeโs night looks like. It is about turning โsomebody should do somethingโ into โthis is how we will do it, by when, and with what.โ
I share this because I believe policy work must remain rooted in human stories. When we lose sight of the midwife with the torch, we risk designing elegant documents that change very little on the ground.
My resolution is simple. Every policy I touch must be traceable to a real person, in a real facility, on a real day.

Honoured to be recognised by Crest Africa as one of the 10 African Women Transforming Healthcare Innovation in 2026.
This recognition is more than a personal milestone it is a celebration of the growing influence of African women who are redefining leadership, advancing innovation, and transforming healthcare across our continent. Every woman who breaks barriers in healthcare creates new possibilities for others to lead, innovate, and serve.
As more women take their place at decision-making tables, our health systems become more responsive, more inclusive, and ultimately, more equitable.
Yet, no healthcare transformation is possible without the unwavering commitment of our frontline health workers. Across hospitals, primary healthcare centres, laboratories, emergency response units, and communities, they continue to carry the weight of our health systems with resilience, compassion, and extraordinary dedication. Their service remains the foundation upon which healthier societies are built.
As I have often said:
"Our vision for healthcare in Africa must transcend merely managing illness; it must be about building resilient, equitable systems where quality care is a fundamental right, not a geographic privilege. By harnessing local innovation, empowering women leaders, and strengthening our public health infrastructure from the grassroots to the federal level, we can secure a healthier, more self-reliant future for every African."
I am grateful to #CrestAfrica for this recognition and honoured to be featured alongside remarkable women whose work continues to inspire meaningful change across Africa.
May we continue investing in women, strengthening our frontline workforce, and building health systems that leave no one behind.
