This Independence Day, @ET_Wealth asks what financial freedom really looks like, in the words of the people who built it.
Our cover story follows seven Indians, aged 18 to 67, and how each one defined freedom on their own terms, from gold and provident funds to SIPs and crypto.
Plus, why Gen Z's money habits break the stereotypes, what it really takes to trade a salary for a passion project, and why too much freedom in your mutual fund choices can work against you.
And lots more.

RBI maintains the same position as it did in Jan 2025, saying Tata Sons’ de-registration application is under examination. Although much tweaking has happened to the norms since then, and RBI governor indicated yesterday the list is known to all and the norms were principles-based, the saga remains in play in the footnote! It would seem it’s status quo till RBI takes a specific call on the de-registration application, although the window for the same, open till the end of this year under recent norms, is available only to NBFCs under 1k cr asset size. TS is > 1 lakh cr.
