-“‘Helicopter’ does not come from ‘heli’ and ‘copter,’ but from ‘helico’ (from Greek ‘helix’ meaning “spiral”) plus ‘pter’ (from Greek ‘pteron’ meaning “wing”).”

-“Like in ‘pterodactyl’?”

-“Girl, exactly.”

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

Here is our write-up for our Word of the Year 2023: https://t.co/mWdoVa7BiR
We chose 🍉, and the English and Journalism faculty had a tie between AI and Barbenheimer. #woty23

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

Don’t forget this, friends!

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

@APA_Style Thank you so much!!

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

@APA_Style hello! Quick question I can’t find on your website or in your guide: does the text in an annotated bibliography need to be indented past the hanging indent? Or should the text be aligned with the hanging indent? If the latter, are both .5”?
Thanks!

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

@tjolson14 We miss you, Taylor! Do you remember any WOTYs from your era?

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

We chose from 40+ submissions ranging from gyatt to menty b to touch grass. Delulu and “in my __ era” were also finalists.
The faculty of @AugieEnglish had four finalists: Barbenheimer, AI, 🍉, and hallucinate. And we both seriously considered many Taylor-Swift-related terms.

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

BIG NEWS!! The writing tutors have deliberated and chosen 🍉 as our Word of the Year for 2023. The faculty of @AugieEnglish had a tie this year between AI and Barbenheimer. Justification forthcoming, as we have finals to take. Now we pass it to

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

We have chosen our Word of the Year for 2023! While we wait for the olds in the @AugieEnglish faculty to make their decision, we’ll keep ours a secret. But tomorrow night we’ll let y’all know what we chose.

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

Meh. The tutors will be voting on our choice next Monday. We’re the only group of youth to do this, so far as we know. Stay tuned to see what we decide, and feel free to offer your submissions! We’ll consider every submission we get.

[Merriam-Webster @MerriamWebster]

'Authentic' is Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year!

Genuinely.

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

Augie freshmen! Y’all have a writing exam coming up next Wednesday. Come to our cram session on Monday evening to have all of your questions answered.

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

@n_ortbahn You’re still in the background of one of our computers from 2010! (And of course on the wall and in our hearts)

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

Our tutor from 10 years ago, Crystal, stopped by to visit!

[Augie Writing Center @AugieWriting]

Pedro says it. So do it, eh?
